ConsPoor quality control
ProsLike the design
The service from St John Cycles was excellent, however, this is the second item from Carradice with glaring quality assurance faults. Although the bag is great for my needs whoever check the bags over or makes them really needs to get their act together. I have decided to keep the bag and put the problem right myself because buying another would mean taking a chance they had put that one together correctly.

You would have thought in a recession that a British company would be stressing to their workers the 'need' quality assess all their own work instead of letting so obvious a fault through the system.

ConsNot as waterproof as other options
ProsClassic styling, solid construction
Lovely bag. A good size. I reckon it's going to last a fair few years.

If you have a rear rack and short legs, this may not fit between your seat and the top of the rack.

Also, while the fabric may be waterproof, I'm not convinced that the rain won't enter via the hole straps. I'm planning to put a layer of innertube between the top flap and the bag itself, which would be invisible, and block the hole.

Still, I'm considering getting a second one of these for my other bike.

Very well made bag. Attractive and practical design. If you have a sprung saddle, the strap supplied is not long enough to go round the seatpost. However, perfect as a handlebar bag.

Conszip access a little bit restricted
ProsQuality, Tough fabric, Nice design
Really tough and well made bag, great value too considering it's made in the UK. Enough room for tools, spare tube and a bit of food etc . Very easy to attach to a Brooks saddle plus it also makes a good small handlebar bag too. I've other Carradice bags including the modern carradry stuff and I would be happy to recommend any of them

Prossimpley the best made and designed bag
I am using the Carradice zipper bag as my handle bar bag . On my 1974 Triumph English Racer I restored. I use the Carradice Barley Bag as my saddle bag. These bags are very well made and very easy to attache .With the Zipper Roll bag ,I wish Carradice would include a set of longer strapps ,perhaps 10 inches instead of the five inches they include ( i live across the pond) so what ever inches equates to in mm's . Other than that ,Iam very pleased with the craftmanship of the Carradice Zippered Roll Bag and Very pleased with the service and price SJS CYCLES has given to my wife and myself. And in the near future we will be ordering more of the Carradice Original Bags for her bicycle a restored 1972 Raleigh Grand Prix. Thank You so much Matt Cooper and Lisa Bass Cooper.

ConsQuite fiddely to fit
ProsLooks great, roomy, strong design
Very robust design and looks great attached to my Brooks saddle. There's plenty of room to fit the pump, tubes and tyre levers, etc inside. The straps were only just long enough which made it awkward to fit.

ConsZip arrangement limits access.
ProsQuality, look, size, price.
I wanted something less bulkly to hang on my Brooks saddle (these two manufacturers seem to be synonymous with each other). It is a nice size and I agree with the previous reviewers comments. It holds my spares for a days ride plus plenty of room for snacks and a sandwich. May be a bit small for touring but for light fast day rides I find it a perfect size. I am not sure it would suite everyone's taste as it is a contemporary design, but I like it.

Conssuggested mounting method
ProsStylish, indestructible
This saddle bag is just perfect for the pump, spare tube, emergency tools, sandwich kit I like to take on longer rides. Approximately the same size as a 2 litre soft drink bottle. Also it looks fantastic hitched to the back of the honey coloured Brooks B17 on my old school tourer.
The construction is bombproof yet light with a wooden dowel to keep it rigid, it's even signed by the nice lady who assembled it.
the only headache is the suggested routing of the straps whic puts the buckles on the inside. After wrestling with them for some time and realising that this would make the bag essentially a permanent fixture on the bike, I comprimised and put them on the outside.
If you live in an area where a saddlebag is likely to be stolen, you might want to persist however.
