Dropout Saver Insert.
Cr-Mo threaded insert fits into stripped rear gear hanger.
Drill out damaged hanger and press in. Hold rear flat hex with spanner.
12mm Drill required for insert and 16mm Spanner required for rear of Insert.
5mm deep section for ends 7mm+

Saved a vintage frame

ConsNeed to drill out the gear hanger threaded hole carefully.

This little device works when the thread on a gear hanger is stripped. I used it on a vintage steel frame where the hanger is an integral part of the frame. The hanger was less than 7mm wide but it worked together with a washer. There are other solutions to this problem but they involve brazing and cost a lot more.

This very simple piece of kit solves a perennial problem - how to repair a stripped rear hanger thread in aluminium frames. (And steel too - although this is less likely).
The only thing to note is the shoulder which then protrudes on the inside of the hanger hole may prevent chain picking up the top gear (smallest cog) on the cassette. In which case it may be necessary to add a shim to the axle to maintain chain clearance...

What Size Thread Is This For?

I have a rear derailer that have stripped the thread out of the frame. what size is the internal thread of these drop out savers?

These are threaded internally to take a M10 bolt which is what is used by the bolt on most rear derailleurs.
