ProsBuild quality as good as original Mudguards.
The original set of Mudguards had lasted in excess of ten years, but were looking a little scruffy. The replacements are the usual excellent SKS quality and were pretty straightforward to fit. As always SJS had what I needed in stock, packaged and dispatched quickly! Outstanding service.

Perfect fit on the SKS AL56 front guard. Drill 5mm hole using the flap as a drill giude. Plastic screw works, doesn't need to be super tight, but time will tell and I may add glue to the threads or substitute with a steel bolt if it loosens. This SKS AL 56 mm front guard is far too short as standard and should be sold with this extender flap and the option of removing it, rather than the other way round!

ConsNot much really
ProsSimple to fit and effective.
Well designed and effective. The fixing screw is just over 5mm so a 5.5 or 6mm drill should be used to make the hole in the mudguard. The screw is plastic so only tighten it until it feel firm. Treating it like a metal screw will only strip it.
Don't forget, the width of your mudguard is measured straight across - don't wrap your tape around the curve or you'll get totally the wrong size.

ProsSolid. Good coverage.
I've had the narrow SKS mudflap on my commuter for four years and it's still solid. This very wide one (I bought 50-60mm) has gone on my cargo bike. Pretty easy to fit if you have a drill. My 60mm guard is right on the limit (perhaps beyond it) for this size. It's a very tight sqeeze.

ProsGood length extension
The chrome plastic mudguards that Halfords fitted to a new bike with 700C wheels proved to be to short and failed to eliminate the spray from the rear wheel. The SKS Long Mudflap proved to be the perfect solution to gain that extra length of guard extension over the entire wheel. Easy to install with a single drilled hole through the existing mudguard.

I recommend this product
ConsHeavy, Screw not strong, Could be lighter
ProsLong, wide, hold their shape, better than any other mudflap on the market
These mud flaps are quite heavy, which causes the mudguards to vibrate and sometimes rattle and rub on the tyre. Mud and gunk buildup gets stuck on the inside on the mudflap as the transition between mudguard and flap is not seamless and the mudflap is quite thick which can cause a buildup of mud.

Plastic screw included is GARBAGE. Had to use my own M5 screws with washers and M5 nuts. The plastic screw threads are not strong and pop out easily, fall off and then get lost on the road.

Could be thinner and lighter to prevent excessive vibration.

ProsIt works great, normally easy to fit
I have a Raleigh Velo Cite pedelec bike with SKS mudguards fitted as standard. The rear has a short rubber mud flap but nothing on the front. Result was that the front wheel threw debris up over the bottom 10 inches of the front down tube and also onto the chain..... in spite of a partial chain guard. The only problem was which size to buy as SJS only supply the small and large sizes. My mudguard is 48 mm wide. I decided on the small one as I figured I could always reduce the width of the mudguard over the fixing length. In trying to fit the flap I split the thin rubber web on the tyre side of the flap. However it did now fit so I made up a support strip cut from a hard thin bottle of the same radius and simply put this behind the fixing washer. Job dome and it works perfectly. No more mud and grit. I think the large version would have been too sloppy so this is a good solution for medium size mudguards. I see that the 2013 version of my bike has an SKS long flap fitted as standard so perhaps SJS could be persuaded to stock the inbetween size too.

Summary. Great flap that does what is intended, easy to fit and solves a common problem at the right price.

Right, other than ordering the too narrow size for the intended bike this is a great mud flap. It holds its shape, so ideal for the back, particularly good if you guard is a bit short or you have a trailer.
Now there are no instructions, so what you need to do is drill a 6mm hole in the right place, with the flap in place insert the rivet, slip washer on the othr side and push the pin. job done

ConsInstructions would've been helpful
ProsWell made and effective
I fitted SKS Bluemels mudguards at end of summer, which are very good, but I still got wet feet in really heavy rain storms. I also wanted one for the rear to prevent spray annoying other riders.

As another reviewer said, the mudflaps came with no instructions, but SJS's product description helped. I drilled a 5mm hole in the mudguards, but had to make it a little wider with a rat tail file so the rivet could push through. I put the metal washer on the inside of the mudguards over the rivet. The pushpin was hard to push through, but I managed to get sufficient force by protecting my thumb with an old leather belt.

The fit is very tidy and seems secure. The front mudflap works excellently. A recent 4 hour ride on very wet roads and my feet were dry. Overshoes were only slightly damp on the outside, so my feet stayed warm.

I don't know how effective the rear mudflap will be, I suspect I may need a longer one. Will have to wait til I get fit enough to join local CTC to find out!

Fit my Planet Bike mudguards nicely, looks tidy and does the job.

As mentioned there were no instructions on using the rivet.

My understanding is that it's a drive rivet, you push the rivet into the hole, place the washer over the rivet on the inside of the fender, then hammer the stalk of the rivet through into the centre of the rivet.

A bit fiddly if the fenders are attached to the bike.

The SKS mudguards are fitted to my Riese & Muller ebike with 62-584 (27.5 x 2.40 - 650B) tyres.
If they are 65mm edge to edge then no, depending on the model there may be a specific mudflap for your SKS guards.

I am looking at this and http://premiumbikegear.com/product/sksmudguardsfortern/

Also will be great if you provide the dimensions of these flaps. Thank you.
Hi,

In theory any of the SKS mudflaps will be compatible with you mudguards because even if you do not have a mounting hole there already you can just drill a new one to fit the mudflaps. The width measurement at where it fits to the mudguard is the only important dimension and these are listed up for every SKS mudflap we sell.

Sks Long Mud Flap, Confirmation Of Size Required
By
17 Mar 2015
Although my tyre width size is 35mm the actual size of the Sks mudguard fitted is 60mm wide. Do I go for the the larger of the two sizes advertised?
Also, is the flap suitable for the rear mudguard?
Hi,

The width of the mudflap needs to relate to the width of the actual mudguard you are fitting it to, so you would need to go for the larger size to fit your 60mm guards. This mudflap is suitable for use on the rear mudguard as well.

Thanks.
Hi Will These Fit On 35Mm Sks Bluemels?
By
22 Oct 2014
Hi,

They would sit wider than you mudguards, but they still attach in the same way as the narrower ones so you could in theory fit them, they would be able to move about alight and change their angle as they would not sit flush to the guard. I would recommend going for the SKS Raceblade mudflap.

Thanks.

By

Will This Fit On Any Fender I Happen To Have On My Bike?
By
11 Nov 2013
Re SKS Long Mud Flap. Also: How do I select the right size? I've been told that this mudflap is only to be fitted to SKS mudguard/fenders. I've been counselled to go with the Brooks mudflap for my application. I own a Kalkhoff Aggatu C8 XXL. Your answers will help me decide. Do you concur?
Hi,

There's nothing stopping you using the SKS mudflaps if they are the same shape as your current mudguards, the Brooks mudflap is more universal as it is leather and is more pliant and can be shaped to whatever you need. If you are going to go for the SKS' you'll need to measure the width of your current mudguards and choose which size best matches that.

Thanks.
