ProsEverything
Very strong, very light, perfect build quality, easy to fit, and looks beautiful with any colour of bike. I have fitted 4 of these to 80s raleighs with Reynolds 501 and 531 frames with no problems. They work fine with carbon, steel or chrome forks. One of my bikes has rigid chrome track forks and was a real bone shaker, but this headset has softened the ride without any sloppy ness. Use a PedalPro headset spanner to fit it. Steering is much better than ball-race headsets.

ProsGood to high quality,nicely made.
people do still have old fashioned headsets and this is a good one, I have used Stronglight products before without any problems, the price is right and the quality is good. I put this into a very nice Italian made Columbus tube road bike with great success it works a treat.

Where can I buy replacement bearings?
By
11 Aug 2023
In one of your other questions you list the bearings as 41*30.15 45*45 but this would be for a 1 1/8" steerer tube. Not a 1".

Can you let me know which bearings I need for a 1" cartridge bearing version of this headset?

Unfortunately the Stronglight website is useless.

Thanks.

We have checked and the bearings are the same size for both versions. SK 11/08/23
Does this headset come with a crown race? If so what size is it 26.4 or 27? Thank you.

I can confirm the crown race is 26.4mm ID SK 02/02/23
Are these the ones fitted our 1999 Thorn 531 Brevet s?
By

Probably! If it LOOKS like that then that is it, we certainly used to fit the A9 to our UK made 1inch threaded steerer bikes at that time. RT 20/06/2022
Please could you let me know the stack height of the bottom cup and crown race.

What is the bearing standard?
By
19 Nov 2020
I often struggle to find replacement 1" cartridge bearings so I wanted to check when the cartridge size is for this headset before I purchase.
This headset uses 2 Stronglight sealed cartridge bearings- 41 X 30.15 (45° X 45°).

Hope this helps

Can the branding be removed?
By
30 Jan 2020
I have the black version installed on a 1949 Holdsworth frame/fork so I'm expecting the silver one to fit and work perfectly. Is the branding printed, stamped or etched? Do you think it could easily be polished off to make it look more authentic on my restoration?
Hi, it's painted not engraved. You could remove it with some fine wet and dry paper or a polishing wheel. Thanks 31/01/2020
replacement spacer
By

Hello, I have lost the spacer just under the top part. Is part No. 22313H2 the right replacement? Thanks.
Yes, that should do the job.

Can I use this with a 1988/89 Dawes Galaxy? The original headset is a Hattaswan. Thank you

The Hatta cup is marked 1
It's likely to fit, though we won't now for certain.

Is this headset using cartridge bearings or caged/loose ball bearings?
By

I want to upgrade my old headset. It has caged bearings but I want something with cartridge bearings.
Hi

Thank you for your enquiry, this headset is supplied with sealed cartridge bearings.

1989 Raleigh Royal

Hi,
Would you happen to know if this would fit this bike. Some Raleighs had 26 tpi threads but I am hoping that changed to 24 tpi before this bike was made.
Thanks,
Rick
Hello,

Unfortunately as we do not stock this bike we cannot say for certain.

Thanks.

Hi,

All of our headsets are either JIS or ISO type which both use 24tpi.

Thanks.

Thanks.
