All new cassette 3 speed hub
- 3 Speed internal gear hub without brake (freewheel).
- Classic 3 speed gear ratio of 177%.
- Compatible with 8 and 9 speed cassettes.
- Compatible with standard MTB / ATB left hand shifters for front triple chainwheel.
- Available with polished and anodised aluminum shell in silver or black.
- Compatible with standard 135mm frame dropouts

increased gearrange without any large jumps

ConsThe lack of a quick release option makes tyre road side puncture repair more challenging
I ride a 20" recumbent trike and have used the hub gear to provide increased gear range without any large jumps. The hub gear also allows for the use of a short drop derailleur which on a 20" wheel ensures the chain is running higher than the wheel rim. As the hub is run in conjunction with a 9 speed block and a triple chain ring in theory I have 81 gears at my disposal.

I have an answer to Les Crook's "con"... 1st he's correct the front derailleur works the opposite direction to the SA CS RK3 hub. I have had a window decal made for the gear indicator, so I rubbed the 3 2 1 off the window with alcohol and applied the 1 2 3 to the underside of the gear shift window... all sorted.

Consthe standard MTB left hand shifter works in reverse
Proscheaper than the Sram unit
Bought as an alternative to a Sram Dualdrive. The guys built it into a 20inch rim for my folding bike. I now have a 27 gear folder that is used as a multi mode touring bike even in hilly areas.

The hub was easy to set up due to the excellent instructions supplied. It has needed just a minor tweak to get the indexing spot on. The only anomaly is that the shifter works opposite to normal. In other words when the indicator shows 3 it is actually bottom gear. Just took a little time to get used to it.

I will admit it is not the most refined of units but, it does what it says on the box.

Does the price include the required hardware to fit the hub such as nuts, antiturn washers, indicator chain?
Thank you for your email, yes the non turn washers, indicator chain, nuts and cable anchorage are included but no shifter or sprocket.

can I use this hub on a brompton

I would like to upgrade a brompton and wondered if thus hub would fit which cassette with the most gears could be fitted while keeping everything else standard
As this is 135mm it would not fit a standard 112mm rear triangle, but you could fit a Kinetics triangle. You could then fit an Alfine/Rohloff which would offer a much larger gear range, the option of a disc brake but whilst keeping mostly the same parts.

Are 11s MTB cassettes the same size as 9s or 10s and therefore would fit on this hub?
Hello, with an 11-speed MTB cassette this maybe compatible however as we have not tested this we cannot guarantee compatibility or suitability.

When using a standard left handed MTB shifter, does it need to be indexed or is the hub internally indexed?
Yes, a Shimano 8/9 speed cassette will be suitable.
The internal shifter will need to be SA 3 spd non rotary.

Can I use this with an 11-36 cassette?

I know the spec states 11-34 is the maximum spread, but how rigid are those limits? Can I go 11-36?
The product you have questioned about is a Sturmey Archer hub, you could use an 11-36 on that no problem. Is that the correct product you are reffering to?

Spoke Lengths Required

I'm upgrading a Mk3 Chopper 5 speed with this hub to a 27 Speed. However the original spokes will not be correct length wise. Can you advise on left side and right side spoke length requirements, or let me have the Flange diameters and Flange centre lengths in MM.

Hi,

Without having the rim as well we can't provide the spoke lengths, but we can provide you with the dimensions of the hub. The flanges are both 68mm in diameter. The DS flange to centre is 14mm and the NDS flange is 40mm to the centre.

Could I Possibly Use This With A 10Sp Cassette?

I ask this question as my cassette is quite new and I want to lower the bottom gears on my recumbent trike with out losing the high gears. I have a Sram PG1070 cassette. I was hoping that this spec might have been written before 10sp cassettes were common place.

You are correct in thinking this description was written before 10spd became common. 8, 9 and 10spd cassettes all take up the same space of freehub so a 10spd cassette can be fitted to this hub without any issues.

Hi,

This hub come supplied with the basic fittings (lock nuts, indicator chain, fulcrum clip and cover), it also come supplied with a dust seal to fit behind the cassette and a cable anchorage unit.
