Hope have kept the key features of the Tech Evo master cylinder and worked to improve the ergonomics and integration on the handlebars. The Tech 3 master cylinder can operate all the calipers from Hope's range and offers a slight increase of power of about 5% over the Tech Evo. Popular design features of Tech Evo remain the same, such as the reach and bite point control (BPC) adjustability. The piston is actuated by a cam and a roller system to eliminate any free play and initial friction. The classic split clamp design makes the master cylinder easy to install on the handlebars without having to remove anything else.

Some riders have previously commented on the relative bulkiness of the Tech and Tech Evo master cylinders, sometimes making it hard to fit the master cylinder around already clogged up handlebars (shifters, fork and shock lockouts, telescopic seat post controls etc). Hope have worked hard to make the new Tech 3 master cylinder easier to integrate on the bars although it does entail losing the ambidextrous design. The Tech 3 master cylinder is now directly compatible with any Shimano I-Spec type shifter meaning no extra mount is required to attach the shifter to the master cylinder. For those using SRAM shifters Hope have designed a slick and minimalistic direct mount adaptor.

Stoker Or Front Handlebars?
04 Nov 2016
I note this is a tandem rear version. Is the hose length to fit to the front handlebars or the stoker handlebars? I have a large/large Thorn Raven tandem and was hoping to use this as a rear stoker controlled extra brake to supplement the existing V brakes on the downhills.

The Tandem versions will be full length cabling for fitting to the front handlebars. If you want to fit the brake to the stoker handlebars you can just fit one of the normal versions of the brake, it does not need to be the tandem version.

Is A Lefthand Lever Available?
21 Oct 2014
The pictures seem to show a lever designed for mounting on the right hand side of the handelebars. As it's intended for the rear brake, will it be supplied with a lefthand lever?

I currently have a Mono 6 with a Goodridge braided hose, and a Staubli coupling. Fitting a V4 replacement would be much easier if I could leave them in place. Will this be possible? I imagine I'd just need replacement olives?

This picture is the same as what is used for the front brake, the rear brake will definitely come with a left hand lever. The coupling can be retro-fitted to these brakes, but you'd need more than just two olives, you'd also need 2 Brass inserts (SJSC part number 25821), 2 Shrouds (SJSC part number 28767) and the washers to fit the inserts (SJSC part number 25822).
