Need A Solution - 5 Year Old Son Can Only Reach Right Brake Lever On His Bike
By
27 Jan 2017
I hope that you can help me.

My 5 year old son Sam is starting to learn to ride a bike but he has syndactly in his left hand which means that the fingers are significantly smaller and cannot reach the left brake lever. I have been in touch with British cycling disability who suggested a gear ‘Splitter bracket’ to thread the cables from both brakes into one brake leave. I have also been in touch with problem solver bikes who suggested a cable double 1:2. I see there is also an option for a dual cable gear lever? As there seem to be a number of options what would be best for a 5 year old boy on a 16" carerra blast?

Many thanks,
Simon
Hi,

There are a few options, the main two types being a single brake lever that pulls two cables like SJSC part 21412. Or you could use something that converts the single cable from the brake lever into two cable for both brakes. There are two options here, including the Problem Solver 1:2 (SJSC part 18243) or the slightly cheaper but equally as good Jtek Double control (SJSC part 19041). Any of these options will allow you to use one brake lever to operate two brakes, but there is very little to differentiate them between their respective performance.

Thanks.
