I recommend this product
I've been buying HG50s for ages and they always do well. I expect to get a year (or about 2500 miles) out of it. For the last two years they were unavailable so I had to buy a more expensive and lighter version (Deore) which wore out more quickly.

I recommend this product
Consweight if you care that much
ProsValue, build quality, shiny
Having replaced the chain for the 3rd time after 5K miles on the old cassette I experienced some slippage. I couldn't see appreciable wear on the old cassette but it was there and the new HG50 is shifting like a dream now.
Very good quality and value. Go for the HG80 or XT if weight is really important for you but I would definitely recommend the HG50. I run with a 105 derailleur to a front triple.

HG50-9 12-27 to HG50-9 11-30
By

Currently 12-27 HG50-9 with 52-39 on Tiagra set. Will HG50-9 11-30 be straight swap? Also shipping to HK ok?
You will need to check if your derailleurs can handle this new gear ratio. As of 30.12.20 we are not taking export orders however this is subject to change.

Shimano Sora RD 3300 derailleur compatibility
By
17 Apr 2020
Hello,

I've got a Sora RD3300 rear derailleur with the shimano hyper glide OS-HG50 8 speed cassette which i'd like to replace for a bigger gear range.
As I understand the RD 3300 can only work up to 27(T) and not sure if it can work with 9 speed cassettes should I choose that.
Can you please advise what options i have (in terms of cassettes and a different derailleur) if i'd like a 9 speed set up to 28-30 (T)
thanks
Hi, you will need an 8 speed derailleur to work with your 8 speed shifters e.g. a Shimano Claris RD-R2000 8 Speed Rear Derailleur. If you want 9 speed then you need to replace your shifters too. Thanks 22/04/2020
Can i use a 11-30T
By

Can i use a 11-30T with RD-4500 read Derail. Chainset is triple 50x39x30T. Capacity says 37, this would push it to 39?
In most cases we do not think this would be a happy system so could not recommend it.

Can I use the HG400 11-34T cassette on a Sora freehub
Hi there,

You should be able to do this without an issue, however as we have never tried this we cannot say for certain.

Thanks.

First: Do you ship to Brazil? Second: About Shimano CS-HG50 9 Speed Cassette, are you going to receive the 11x32 option? Thank you very much.Regards from Brazil, Francisco
Hi there,

Shimano do not produce the HG50 9speed in 11-32, the closest alternative is - SJS Cycles part number : 36278R1132

Thanks
Will you be having 11-34T back in stock ?
By
17 Mar 2018
Hi,
Unfortunately we can no longer get hold of the HG50 cassette in the 11-34T ratio, but we do have plenty of other Shimano cassettes in the 11-34T ration that can be fitted and used instead. The nearest equivalent performance wise would be the HG400, these are SJSC part number 36278R1134.

Thanks

I Currently Have A Sora 11/32 to a compact Chainring 50/34. Can I Replace With This 11/34 Without Any Hassle?
Hi, with your current set up its likely that you have a short cage rear derailleur which works fine with a 11/32T cassette however to run a 11/34T you will need a long cage, GS type rear derailler like our item #42946.

Compatability Of Sprocket Sets With Tiagra Rear Mech
By
18 Sep 2014
I have a what appears to be a 24/13 sprocket set on my bike which is fitted with shimano tiagra changers. i would like to change this to an11/30 or even an11/32. is this possible ?
Hi,

It is all dependant on whether or not you have a short or medium cage rear derailleur and if you are running a double or triple set up. If you have a double and a short cage derailleur then you could just about get away with an 11/30 but it will require some adjusting, if you have a medium cage derailleur then you could get away with up to an 11/32 with a double or 11/30 with a triple, it may work but I think you'd be pushing it to use an 11/32 with a triple ring set up.

Thanks.
