ProsGood Value for money for extra gear Ratios
Was using 52-39 and 11-25 with a Short cage 105 on my old Specialized Allez Sport and finding the hills a bit more difficult lately (Getting older).Decided to give the 11-34 a try combined with the Sunrace Rear Extender. Bought a new 9spd chain and swapped everything over without any problems, just had to extend the length of my chain by a couple of links compared to the 11-25 set up and adjust the B limit screw. No problems with shifting using the short cage which I was a bit concerned about.

Oh, the sweet sound of nice crisp gear changes, how I missed you.
Not any more ?? it's surprising how you don't realise how your gear changes have degraded over time, with a new cassette the change is night and day.

Hello & thank you for your enquiry.
Shimano 8- 9- and 10-speed cassettes/hubs are fully interchangeable for wheels with steel Freehub bodies. The only parts that are different in any important way between the 8- 9- and 10-speed systems are the shift control levers.

Hi I have a specialized secteur with a 12/27 sora cassette. Need a bit of help up the hills. Can I swop to a CS-HG400 11/32? Do I need to change anyything else?
You may need to use a derailleur extender, SJS part 54247 would suit this.

I got Haibike sDuro Hardseven 1.0 Ebike with with Shimano 9spd it 11-36 I want lower 1st gear will 11-42 or 11-40 fit Ebike it got 114 Link Chain what ones make it easier go up steep hills
11-40/42 would make climbing easier. You will need to confirm your derailleur will cope with the extra sized cassette, your local bike shop may be helpful with this.

My chain is relatively new and has no stretch but Will i have to remove chain links or just readjust my rear sora deraileur? thanks
We would recommend readjusting your rear derailleur for optimum shifting performance. We cannot say if you will have to remove links, as you will need to perform a chain-link calculation for your new drivetrain.

Hello, interested in this cassette in 11-34 to run with my 46/30 double. Can you please tell me if it will work with the following hub that I ordered from you recently - Shimano Deore FH-T610 Rear Hub 135mm - Black.

Will this run with a normal chain as well or require a specific type/width?

Hi, yes this cassette will work fine with the FH-T610 rear hub. The recommended chain for 9-speed use will depend if you wish to use it as a 1x9/ 2x9/ 3x9 system.

I have a 50/34 chainring and 11-32 cassette. 9 speed. Can i fit an 11-34 or 12-36 cassette without having to change the chain?
Shimano says that any increase in maximum sprocket size would require a new chain cut to the correct length to suit the new gearing.

Yes, you can as its the same fitting- just make sure to go for a maximum sprocket size that your rear derailleur can handle.

This is around half the price of the XT M770 cassette, and as I don't need the high performance anymore I wondered whether this would be suitable.

Am i right in thinking i can use a 11-36 9 speed cassette and long cage derailluer with ten speed bar ends? Or does it need to be ten speed cassette and nine speed derailluer? Also do i still use ten speed chain? Which parts would you reccomend? Thanks very much for your help.

I am looking to change my current cassette to an 11-32. My rear derailier is a Shimano Claris medium cage derailleur and was wondering if I will be able to use it for the new cassette? (I have an Ultegra triple on the front)

You will be able to use pretty much any 9 speed chain found here - https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chains-9-speed/

I have read your answer about the 7 biggest sprockets being pinned together, but could I remove the largest sprocket by grinding/drilling the pins?
I only have room for 8 sprockets on the old 7 speed cassette body I'm using and I have 9 speed shifters.

Hi,

The fitting and cog spacing will be the same, you will just need to make sure your rear derailleur can cope with the size of cassette you choose, this won't be an issue if you are sticking to the same ratio though.

I replaced a Shimano cs HG 50 1132t some while ago on my Dawes super Galaxy tourer with a bigger cassette from yourselves and I'm going to replace now I'm buying some new wheels.

There is very little difference between the HG300 and the HG400. The finish is the only thing that separates them and this would only be aesthetically so you would not notice any difference in performance between the two.
