I recommend this product
Bought this for the sole purpose of converting a 3 x 6 to a 1 x 6 and because of the colour. The machining is excellent and the overall finish gives it the look of a much more expensive part. Ability to replace the chain ring is a big plus, as is the chain guard. All aligns very well one fitted and gives me a good gearing ratio. In fact, I was so impressed, I bought a second one.

ConsDerailleur-style chainring
ProsInexpensive, works well
Bought one of these to replace the triple chainset on an old rigid MTB. Gave me a simple low maintenance 1 by 6 for work for not a lot of cash. I'd have preferred a dedicated single chainring but in practice it works just fine.
Good Value But Not As Expected

ConsChainring, Not-as-pictured
Can't complain about the price but I'm a bit disappointed by this item for the same reasons as a previous reviewer (Al).
The product received has fussy shiny detailing machined on the chainguard, which is not as the product pictured on the website and not the plain black I wanted for the bike I'm fitting it to.
The chainring is a derailleur item with cutaway teeth which will undoubtedly work fine but is slightly irritating from an engineering point of view for a something advertized as a single chainset that I'm fitting with a hub gear.
A Budget Solution

ConsRamped chainring. chunky
ProsCheap, Straight swap
I bought this chainset to replace the Truvativ triple chainset on my Cannondale Badboy, thus converting the drivetrain to a 1 by 9. As it fits a 113 mm bottom bracket axle it is a direct swap with no need to change the B/B cartridge. The chain guard replaces the outer chainring on what is obviously a converted double chainset thus the remaining (steel) chainring is ramped to facilitate shifting, whilst this does not affect performance I do wonder if it may not wear more quickly. The chainset itself is finished in black with some alloy detailing on the chain guard and overall the construction is solid if a little chunky. The 130 mm BCD, five arm configuration means that replacing the chainring should present no problems though using a larger chainring may mean having to use a longer B/B axle as the 42 tooth one supplied does sit close to the adjecent chainstay. I would recommend this product as a budget solution for those who do not wish to spend twice as much for the equivalent Shimano or Truvativ item.

Is this JIS or ISO taper?
22 Apr 2018
I'm trying to get the right combination of bb and crankset to achieve the expected chainline, but for that, I think I need to know whether the square taper is JIS standard or ISO standard, could you help out? Thanks
Hi there,

These use a JIS bottom bracket.

Could you tell me the chainline with a 113mm bb and also will the chainwheel and cranks clear standard MTB seatstays?
Hi there,

We do not have these fitted to a bicycle and therefore cannot measure the chainline for you, compatibility will depend on the frame you fit the chainset to.

I Have This Crank But Require A New Chainring . Can You Recommend Any

Can you tell me the BOLT CIRCLE DIAMETER for the original item as I'm having problems finding this. You say I can use the middle ring off a triple set. Any make or model details would be handy as clearly I don't need to replace the whole thing. Thanks.

This chainset uses a 130mm BCD. We mention the chainring being a middle type ring as this is what is supplied with the chainsets, any 130mm BCD chainring will fit this crankset, so you can choose whatever one you like.

Will this fit a Brompton Folding bike 6 speed??
And..Do you ship to the USA?

The offset of this chainset is very similar to that of the Brompton spider chainset so this will be a suitable replacement. If you still have the older fixed cranks you will also need a new JIS type bottom bracket. We are able to ship these cranks to the USA also.

Is This Chain Set Suitable For A Derailleur And A 3/32 Chain

Yes this chainset is suitable for use with a 3/32" chain and a derailleur based system.
