Details

SON 28 is designed for wheels from size 26" to 700c. It is the recommended unit, if a maximum power output is necessary at low speed, such as when using a halogen headlight or charging batteries. Special drillings 40H & 48H are available for tandems & for disc disc brakes there is the SON 28 Disc with a 6-bolt mount.

Since 2000, more than 70,000 units have been sold, which have established the SON's good reputation as the most solid & durable hub dynamo on the market. The first pressure equalization system, was realised in SON 28 in 2002 & now protects all types of SON efficiently from ingress of water.

Included in delivery: Skewer and connectors for the headlight

ProsExcellant quality.

I have had my dynamo for nearly 20 years. It is now fitted to my third frame. The last two were worn out. It is now on it's fourth rim, the others were worn out.
It has done approximately 75-80,000 miles. Ridden as my daily commute, through twenty winters and all the salt on the roads.
I had to have it overhauled once, after an autumn of floods and pushing it hub deep through the water.

ConsExpensive with a new wheel build but will probably last a lifetime.

ProsSolid, Quality, Minimal drag

I had a B&M bottle dynamo which worked well. When you want to generate power on a tour, this is the solution. The dynamo hub runs very smoothly and generates minimum power for the Tout Terrain The Plug II at a lower speed than the bottle dynamo. When no current is being drawn, the wheel does not cause any noticeable drag. When powering lights or supplying the The Plug II, there is a little drag but again not noticeable when riding. A must have item for recharging batteries on a long tour.

ProsVery reliable

Originally bought this hub 15 yrs ago as part of a built up wheel from SJSC ,it has given flawless service over all sorts of terrain both for touring and commuting ending up with a new rim and spokes having to be fitted last year (only because the rim had worn).The hub still running very sweetly , Have just purchased a new SON hub to go on another bike.

Consif you have shares in battery manufacturers...

Prosefficient,reliable,well made

I've had my SON hub for about a year now, and it has provided excellent service. It's probably one of the best made bicycle dynamos you can get.
All I've ever had from it is trouble free electricity, and no trouble since installation. A good set of switchable LED dynamo lights will complete an excellent no hassle lighting system that never needs batteries.

If you don't ride much at night, or have a very lightweight bicycle, you should look for a good set of LED battery lights instead.

Consslight vibration when generating

ProsBeautiful, unbreakable, totally reliable

Do I know it's there? Yes when the lights come on there's a faint vibration coming up through the forks when going at speed, otherwise it is the coolest, quietest, most invisible, all-but dragless 150 quid I have ever spent, and I really want another one for my other bike. Are you listening, Mum?

Hi,really like the idea of the hub generating energy for sat nav ,phones etc, Will the above hub be able to do that and can any lights LEDs be used or are they compatible with only specific manufacturers, cheers,Brian

Disk Mount?

I´m going to use this hub on my cyclocross and i wounder if the 24H hub have disk mount as standard?
