Hello, I’m looking at purchasing a bike fitted with a Shimano 8-speed IGH and Gates Carbon Drive system. I am thinking of replacing the supplied Shimano shifter with one from JTek (Mk.1 or Mk.2). Can you firstly confirm that there isn’t any compatibility problem and, secondly, give some idea of how the shifters compare in size with each other and the Shimano as it would be fitted to a riser style bar (580mm)?

Finally, how does the smoothness of operation compare
between the two JTek models given the price difference?

Yes these work nicely with the S7001-8.

The Mk1 Jtek shifter is a slightly larger, but much more adjustable unit. The lever is a nice length so shifting is slighter, but this is a smaller shifter!

For which Alfine hubs will this shifter be "push away from you for an easier gear"?

I understand that different generations of Alfine / Nexus 8-speed hubs have the shifting cable operation reversed. I am thinking of using this shifter in a new set-up, but would like it to shift like my old derailleur gears, i.e. push away from me to get to an easier gear.

Which hubs would give this action with this shifter?

For all Nexus and Alfine 8-speed hubs except the S7000 series Alfine hubs, the cable is loosest in the lowest gear. Therefore, all shifters will be push away and get harder as they pull more cable.
