I recommend this product
I've used single speed setups on my vertical dropout commuting bike for over 10 years. This is the best chain tensioner I've found. Expensive but worth it considering cheaper options didn't last more than a year or two. The only part I've had to change is the jockey wheel. I prefer the push up setting because it gives more chain wrap around the rear cog.
Neeeeearly the best...

ConsNoisy. Beaten by a whisker to the finish line by the Rohloff
ProsBeautiful and low profile. Made by Surly and made well
Bought this initially for a Surly Straggler frame with a Rohloff rear wheel. It’s beautiful, built to last and I’m a Surly snob... but... I ended up buying a Rohloff specific tensioner which I think is slightly better being dual sprocket (to keep the chain where it should be). I now have two Rohloff ones which SJS also stock and would recommend them unless you’re going for a particular hipster single speed vibe for cleaner lines! Also, this is a lot noisier than the Rohloff. Gave this one to my bro who loves it.

pull up version scurly singulator
By
18 Jul 2017
Hi,
Do you offer the Scurly Singulator with a pull up spring (Surly Singleator Spare Spring, pull up).
If yes, how to order?
Hans
Hi,

Both springs are supplied with the Singulator anyway so you can just choose which one you require.

Thanks.
Can I Buy A Replacement Jockey Wheel?
By
22 Jun 2017
I have this chain tensioner and after changing the rest of the drivetrain on my Alfine igh, the tensioner is kicking against the chain, presumably as the jockey wheel is worn. I can't find a replacement however. Do you sell one, or can your recommend an appropriate alternative?

Thanks!
Hello,

I do not see a problem with just replacing the jockey wheel. SJS part #34339 seems like a suitable replacement.

Thanks.
Suitable For A Alfine Setup On A Disk Trucker?
By
16 Aug 2016
Hi I have an Alfine 8 hub on a surly disk trucker, and I have an unsprung shimano chain tensioner which is to be honest rubbish. I'm thinking the singleator might be a suitable part for this use. I also need some plastic boots to go on the frame gear lever mounts, as they are very unsightly in their raw rusting form.. any suggestions?
Hi,

The only covers we have for downtube bosses are alloy and made by problem solvers. These are SJSC part 24616.

Thanks.
