I recommend this product
ProsComfortable hand position
Light, very nice quality finish. Fitted through an old clamp style (single bolt on bar clamp) quill stem, but only just, due to the tight bends on the bar.
Pretty but hard to handle

ConsLack of visual markings makes it almost impossible to center and align.
ProsBeautifully finished, extremely lightweight
The absolutely fabulous finish and feather-light weight belie the fact that the bar is painfully hard to center and align onto the stem clamp, given the lack of any visual aids other than a single target-like mark the ends up hidden under the clamp anyway.
Perfect Brompton Fit

I recommend this product
Swapped the standard bars on my 2017 M6L Brompton with these in about 40 minutes. Perfect fit and completely transforms the ride (and look). Much more "mountain bike" than "folding bike" now.

Looses the essential Brompton quirky look and riding feel. Which is more important to you, look or character!?

Fold still perfect, a little wider but the Ergon grips are further off the floor with these bars than standard. Won't fit in the B bag (with Brooks Ergon grips) but will fit in Brompton's new 4-wheel bag that replaces the B bag.
Excellent Handlebars

ProsVery comfortable
Handlebars are reasonably light and seem strong enough for the job. They have a kind of muted silver finish on them: not chrome but not quite brushed aluminium either.

They arrived well packed and in pristine condition and they have transformed my daily ride into something massively more comfortable. I mean, who cares about aerodynamics when you're commuting through London traffic? I'm very pleased with the purchase.

ConsBars got scratched in process of putting them on.
ProsMore comfortable than my previous swept back bars.
I'd love a Thorn bike but seeing as how I can't afford one I'm trying to make my current bike, a fairly decent older steel Trek, better for longer rides. It had quite swept back handlebars and although these were find for short rides I thought the Thorn Comfort bars might be better for longer rides. My husband put them on and like a previous reviewer scratched them in the process trying to get them in. I assume my bike must also have the front loading stem he mentions (pardon my ignorance...). However I am so glad I bought them as they are a massive improvement for me on longer rides (44 miles the other day which is amazing for me!) giving me a more comfortable riding position.

ProsStiff, good looking, nice shape, good width, ideal rise
Fantastic bars. I put these on my Brompton M type so it matches the bar height of the S types and they work wonderfully. See for more info and some photos.
Nice, Sensibly Priced Bars.

ConsRequires front loading stem
ProsNice high rise bar for minimum £s
Well finished, excellent price and a good shape with a large rise and a clever central section for lights. However, the shape also causes a slight flaw in the design because the tight bends mean that the bar requires a front loading stem to work properly. I managed to squeeze mine into an old fashioned single bolt stem but it required some minor bodging and I ended up scratching my brand new bar :O(

ConsNone, as far as I can see
ProsConfortable, classy...
I already have a pair on my Thorn Raven Tour and I thought they would be just the job for my Kerlouet fast road bike whose cockpit I am redesigning. This was indeed the case. A very nice product.

ProsLight, Good shape, Well finished
Great Bar, Well Finished and Light. I added these to my wives hybrid to give a more comfort posistion as opposed to the original flat bar.

Very comfortable and easy to install.

Worth the investment if you are looking for a medium rise bar. Less aggressive than the MTB / Downhill bars as offered elsewhere.

What is the external diameter for outer fittings?
27 Aug 2021
The outer diameter of these bars where the controls etc will fit is 22.2mm. We hope this helps.
Kind Regards. JP 01/09/21
Can these be shortened ?
29 Oct 2020
I’m thinking of fitting these to a B75 Brompton,
would the bars be weakened if I shortened them?
Yes you can trim them to size, the bike will become wider when folded and a lot lower in handlebar height, we normally go with - SJS Cycles part number : 46143

Re stem fit. Is Nitto stem part no 27443S090 suitable
14 May 2018
The stem will pass over the bars until the clamp bulge, it may pass over without scratching but its very tight.
Can I use this with a quill stem (not front loading)?
13 May 2018
There is nothing stopping you fitting these to that sort of stem, but i will depend on the stem in particular to see if you can fit it round the curves of the bars.

Will Ergon GP5s work?
20 Apr 2018
Would it be possible to combine these bars with Ergon GP5 grips?
Hi there,

Yes these will fit no problem.

What is the internal diameter of these bars?
27 Aug 2017
Also, what is the length from end to the bend at each side?

The internal diameter is 18mm and the length to the bend is 190mm.

Brookes Cambium Grips - standard
21 Aug 2017
Will the Brookes Cambium Grips (standard) fit on these?

The Brooks cambium grips are the correct diameter to fit onto these bars without any issues.
