ConsCould do with a flashing option
ProsCars have no problem in spotting me in the dark
Rather puzzled by some of the previous comments since this is a very Brompton-ish component, i.e. a bit pricey, a bit old fashioned but robust and provides a good light. And the usual excellent service from SJC.

I would just like to comment on the outstanding service provided by SJS Cycles. I emailed a complaint on Bank Holiday Monday morning, because the Brompton rear lamp I had ordered had not arrived. This was probably the fault of the postal service. After 16 minutes I had an apologetic reply from Shelley, and the next day a replacement was dispatched. It arrived very well packaged and in good time. This my second purchase from SJS, who are now my first choice for cycle spares. The only niggle I have about the lamp itself is the need to use a screwdriver to change the batteries.
Very Poor Quality

ConsIncredibly poor quality design and build
You need a screwdriver to change the batteries, there is no attempt at sealing and mine ended up being permanently on after a few years (failed switch) despite having never really been used in the rain. It gets one star for being reasonably bright.

ConsTerrible cheap internals
ProsFits a Brompton
This is the 3rd Brompton rear light that's been fitted to my bike so don't expect a durable product. The button fails after approximately 2 years on these lamp units. I don't need to use lights much either but its reassuring to have a light fitted. The bike is never used in the rain & is never 'power washed' either. The lights come with cheap batteries so I would recommend changing to Duracell before fitting. I would look for a different make.

Excelent service from SJSC. Quick response after I made a mistake in the purchase process.
The light is easy to install. High intensity.

Consunsure about durability
Proseasy to fit
Great service from SJS cycles, arrived quickly with fittings etc. I hope this light lasts longer than the last one, on which the button went after a year. Replaced like for like for ease of fitting, but hopefully mine breaking was a freak occurence, expensive if it only lasts a similar amount of time.

Prosneat, doesn't compromise fold, excellent visibility, lightweight, cheap.
Firstly, excellent service from SJSC. They really do support their customers, and pricing and delivery are excellent.

Secondly, i was slightly sceptical about the Brompton rear light at first : It's obviously mounted very low on the bike, and is slightly obscured by the mudguard. Once installed however, there was scope to raise the light slightly on its bracket, without interfering with the "fold".

In use, the light is as bright as almost all of the competition. It doesn't flash, but there's no questioning its ability to make you visible. In addition, the light casts a red glow over the rear of the bike's mudguard which by default helps other commuters see you.

I like the fact that this Light is mounted low on the bike : a) because it is an odd place for a light to be mounted, and so by default draws attention to the bike..... and b) When riding, you can look down between your legs and see that its turned on. Blimey : the amount of times that i've ridden off in a rush and forgot to turn my rear light on.!

Replacement Lens Screws
25 Oct 2016
Are replacement lens screws available? The light is a few years old and still working, but the screw heads are now in poor condition and need to be replaced. Can you let me know what size they are and whether they're available with an Allan key head?

These lens screws are not available as a spare part from Brompton so we're unable to order them I'm afraid. In theory you could replace it with another screw, but not and allen key bolt as the threading is different. The screws are 3mm in diameter and 16mm long.

How To Change Battery
26 Jun 2014
I have bought M2L , cobolt blue from Hongkong.
They in clude brompton rear battery lamp.
But , I do not have manual of the lamp.
If you have the manual or please let me know how to change the battery. That will be great.
best regards.

The full manual is mainly for fitting, but it is a simple process to change the battery. Undo the two screws on the font of the light and the whole front piece and screws should lift off together. Replace the batteries making sure to get them the correct way around for the polarity. Refit the front piece and do up the screws, being careful not to over tighten them.
