got 4 sets of these as they looked very good VFM. material looks to be quite thick and gives the impression of being at least water resistant, but will still use liners. I would say light touring only, I loaded one up with shopping and some of the rivets securing the hooks popped on the way home (honking on pedals up a hill though which prob didn't help) so these appear to be a weak point. better rivets needed methinks. glad that I have found this out now at home rather than in the middle of a long tour (was intending for the kids to use them to carry their personal items).

Mounted on bike, filled with my kit, closed the clips, pulled straps tight: fabric ripped apart. Never even got to ride the bike with them.

Previous SJS panniers lasted well: these are going back.

ProsAbsolute bargain
Had some of these with plastic hooks, they didnt break. used them for severall years light touring and day trips. they are still in one piece but now let to much water in. these are updated, better hooks, better elasicated straps, an absolute bargain at the price £15 the pair and expect they will last another good few years. allways use a liner as with most panniers they'll let some water in durig bad weather

So easy to attach to the bike and carry around, the velcro together if you're using both and can velro to the bike as well but the metal clips work fine on their own

Great size too, you can get quite a lot in them and they're not so long that you kick them with your heels when pedalling. Would recommend to anyone looking for panniers and the price is fantastic.

and does everything I need for my shortish commutes. Haven't tested it them in heavy rain but I will probably shove over a waterproof cover if I am that worried. Obviously there are better panniers out there but for the money this just represents great value. Maybe I will change if I decide to do a 1000 mile but until then, these a great

I've been using the panniers daily on my commute for the past 2 weeks in this horrible wet summer weather. They are probably not completely waterproof but I haven't had any wet content at the end of my commute (45 mins one way).
The panniers seems to be well made, one of them is big enough for my commuting needs and I can't imagine anything better for the price.

Consbungee type fastening for extra security onto the rack could be better
Prosvalue, metal mounting clips, bags separate for carrying, nylon lining, easy to attach and detach
I've now bought 5 sets. I bought my own a few weeks ago and everyone who sees them seems to like themto the extent that since my first set I've bought another 4 sets, with more to come. I particularly like the metal clasps which fasten the bags to the rack and also make for easy removal. The set separates into two separate bags if you need to carry them anywhere. Just the right size for paperwork, books etc, and probably a laptop. Our cycling group is going Holland later this month,so at least 5 sets will be on show (probably more by then though!). Seriously though, these are well made bags, plenty capacity and functional. The bungee type of fastening is a beat of a let down (doesn'rt seem quite as high quality ast he rest of the bag, but it works fine. All in all a real bargain and I have no hesitation in recommending them

ConsLack of rack hook catch
ProsBargain, hard wearing, cheap enough to leave on parked bike
This is the second set of these panniers I have ordered. They are amazing value and at a price they can be left on the parked bike without needing to worry. It would be nice if the rack hooks has a catch like on dearer panniers but at this price you can't complain!

Prosvalue,price,quality
I could not find a better value deal for panniers than these. I looked at what others had said and took a chance to order a set. I am not disappointed. They are well made and the material is actually quite thick and sturdy. Very easy to attach with good fastening clips similar to a good quality rucksack. I commute 12 miles Mon Friday and have had no problems whatsoever. They easily take all i need and on return have added some shopping to them as well. The end pockets are handy for the quick to reach stuff like locks and keys etc or as I do my repair kits and tools.I have not encountered any major leaks yet but I tend to use drysacs anyway just to double up and to lift out if I do not remove the whole bag.Overall a great value bag and I hope they remain that way through the winter.

ProsGreat value for money
After doing a regular 12 mile commute with a backpack , I decided to invest in the panniers. So much better, no sweaty or aching back ! They seem well made and fit on the bike in seconds. Mounting hook is made of metal so I would expect them to be long lasting. No use for a cycling holiday, but for a commute ar a couple of carrier bags of shopping they are ideal !

ProsCheap, attractive
They're super cheap, at least quite water proof and don't look bad at all. The bungie cord isn't elegantly made, but you never see it. At £15 you'd be mad not to get these if you have a rack. And waterproofing isn't that important anyway. Just put all your stuff in a plastic bag inside!

ProsPerfect for the beginning tourist.
I bought my first set early 2010 when I decided that touring was better than posing on a fast bike. Since then I have equipped most of the family's bikes with a pair of these excellent value pannier bags. I even used a pair on a touring bike during my excursions in Jiangsu China. The panniers did the job on a full load in all weathers. I could not ask for more.

Amazing value for money! You can fit quite a lot in them but at the same time they are not too high so they fit on old bikes where the rack sits just on top of the mudguard. Quality seems more than alright for the price.

I recommend this product
Superb value for money set of pannier bags. They look deceptively small but can hold an awful lot. I regularly use mine for shopping and have even moved house with them!! They fit securely to my rack with hooks at the top (with backup velcro) and a bungee strap that I pass around the bottom of my rack and back up to a loop on the pannier. Seems to maintain good tension and stops the bag bouncing around. Only con is that the top hooks are metal and could be coated to prevent scratching the rack, but I have used a bit of old inner tube instead. Not tried in the wet yet. V. happy

ProsSize, build, functionality
Took a bit of a flyer with these as I wasn't sure they'd be big enough. Asked some advice by email and got a constructive response (very helpful). They're certainly big enough for a light camping trip, or, alternatively, a fairly heavy shopping trip. And at half price they were a superb bargain. Thank you.

I recommend this product
For the price these are excellent and really good value. Well put together (with waterproof inner liner) these were ideal for a weekend trip away. Only drawback is the lack of security of the lower part of each pannier against the rear rack . Could do with a clip/bracket to secure into the rack means that the panniers can swing a bit when you're out of the saddle.

ProsPrice, design
These are great! Very sturdy, a doddle to attach and surprisingly capacious.
They had a good drenching yesterday in the rain on the way to work and didn't leak, and have remained securely attached to the bike despite being shaken around by our pot-holed local roads.
Each bag is big enough to hold a helmet, and the r design keeps the majority of the rack free for strapping on larger parcels.
Brilliant!

ProsValue,Size, Easy fixing
Bought 2 sets - 1 for me, 1 for my daughter. Easy fixing, sturdy, not yet tried them in the wet. Large enough to accomodate my daughter's laptop.
Have cut down 1 piece of the velcro to make easier to secure. Don't need the elastic on the inside as very stable

I bought these via ebay and didnt expect too much for the money. Ive been very pleased and have to say that theyve kept my belongings dry on two very wet Sunday rides. Theres no sign of wear after a few months occasional use and even if they dont last for years they still represent great value.

I would highly recommend this pair of pannier bags. I bought them almost a year ago and they are still serving me very well. I use them when commuting to work and I find that I can easily put my books, laptop, change of clothes and shoes into them easily. Although they are not 100% waterproof, I find that my contents only gets wet during heavy rain, at which point I put the contents in a plastic bag and then into the panniers; and this ensures complete dryness.

Fitting These To A Topeak Beam Rx Seat Post Mount Rack
By
16 Jul 2016
These look ideal - I'm after a set of bags with not too big a drop. I need to fit them to the 7mm rails on the Topeak Beam Rx rack. Also, Can you tell me the distance from the mount brackets to the bottom of the bag? These look like they will mount nice and high and avoid flexing into the spokes. Cheers
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

The bottom of these bags sit at around 260mm below the height of the rails when they are loaded.

Thanks.
Would These Fit On A Front Blackburn Lowrider Rack?
By
04 Mar 2016
I'd like to be able to fit these on a lowrider front rack or standard back rack for flexibility. If fitted to the front I realise I wouldn't be able to load them up so heavily.

If they are not suitable for a Blackburn lowrider do you sell any that would be good for this rack?
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

These panniers should fit absolutely fine on your Blackburn lowrider front rack.

Thanks.
