Details
For CC / TS Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 (135 / 170 mm).

The sprocket of the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 is secured to the gearbox over a six start thread. To remove the sprocket with a chain-whip, the driver must be firmly held in place. This is the job of the sprocket tool. It is placed over the driver, secured by a quick release lever (CC versions) or axle nut (TS versions) and can then be held firmly in position with a 24mm wrench.

Prosquality
I think this is necessary for any long distance tour where there is a need to replace the rear cog on a Rohloff equipped bike. A bit expensive but without it you would be stuck! A hefty wrench and a chain whip is required (available world wide!). A good idea to remove the cog and apply some Copper ease before replacing to ensure that the cog can be removed if and when you need to later.

Expensive but necessary to get the sprocket off. Above advice about a chunky chain whip is good too. Make sure the QR holding the tool in place is tight. I left a small amount o play and the sprocket
Essential Like A Bb Removal Tool, But Way More Expensive!

ProsDoes the job nicely
Simple tool that you can hold in place with your QR (if you have one).

You will also need a chain whip (not too expensive to buy) and a big adjustable spanner (or vice) to hold the tool in place.

The sprocket is like a nut, clockwise to tighten, anticlockwise to loosen.
Note: be careful when you use a vice because the sprocket will be face down so you'll have to loosen in the opposite direction!

If only it cost the same as a bottom bracket removal tool!

You just can't flip the sprocket without it, but it's grossly over-priced.
Be warned, you'll need a hefty chain whip too. I made mine from 2 feet of steel, 5mm x 25mm cross-section, and an old 1/8 inch chain.

There are versions of this tool? which one fits a thorn mercury?
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

This version you have left this question on is the correct version for the hub in your Thorn Mercury SJSC part number 10359. The other options are for the new hubs that come with bolt through axles.

Thanks.
