Schwalbe marathon almotion or gt tour?
By
04 Oct 2020
Hi, I would really welcome to it advice on which cycle tyre to buy. I would like to get a tyre in the following size range 700x38c - 700x42c. Mostly road but also commuting on road and a bit of cycle paths. Plus some weekend touring trips. I am a heavy guy. I like the look of both the Schwalbe Marathon Almotion and also the GT Tour. I will run these with inner tubes and not fussed about folding. What would you suggest?
The GT Tour would probably be perfectly suitable.

Thanks
Dawes 97 Galaxy with Mavic 221 rims

Hi
We have two of the last British built Galaxies, bought from you at the end of 1996.
They have Mavic 221 Rims and were originally fitted with Conti Top Touring 32-622 tyres.
I thought these were 28 inch, but I’m confused that 622 now appears to be 700c....are they infect the same sizes and interchangeable?
Finally, how wide a tyre would you consider as acceptable by the rim and frame? Will it comfortably take 35 or 37‘s
Many thanks
Hi, 28 and 700c are the same diameter but are different widths. 622 is the ETRTO designation to try to standardise tyre sizing. The Mavic 221 is 700c and only 22 mm wide 32-622 in most makes of tyre is about the limit. Thanks 27/04/2020
max weight when quoted for tyres. Is that per tyre?

Yes, max weight is per tyre.
