Punctures are a memory. The SmartGuard layer made from a flexible, special rubber offers particular resistance to shards of glass & flints. Even a thumbtack cannot penetrate this protective layer. The SmartGuard belt does not increase rolling resistance. The MARATHON PLUS rolls as easily as a tyre without protection.

It is impossible to guarantee that a flat will never happen, but the Marathon Plus has the best defense against everyday tyre wreckers such as glass, flints or metal shards. Use a pressure gauge to adjust tyre pressures as the common "thumb check" is insufficient due to the special construction of the Marathon Plus.

ProsBombproof
Cycled end to end without a single puncture, so very pleased with these tyres. They roll pretty well too. Only drawback is they're quite difficult to lever on to the rim, but it's so rare that this needs doing it's not a real problem.
Also like to add that SJS customer service is excellent.

ConsQuite hard to fit.
ProsPuncture-proof, low rolling resistance, long lasting, grippy.
These hardly ever puncture, roll easily, grip well and last a long time before the tread wears down. Fitting them gets easier with practice. No one in my household will use any other tyre having tried these, and they are well worth paying the extra money for.

:Local bike shop in Belfast reluctant to supply the tyres I wanted to a new Giant Hybrid Express. After a series of punctures I have just fitted the SMPs.
Much easier to ride!

I still have not found the best way to fit these tyres but once on you would be unlucky to get a puncture as long as the pressures are maintained.

Conshard to fit - only needs fitting every other year though.
ProsTough(er) than nails (that's the point!)
Bought a pair of these in March 2010 and used them with cheap supermarket inner tubes.

I've just had my first puncture. In almost 10,000 miles of commuting (yes, really.)

Tyres are going bald now so I need new ones, I'm getting the exact same make. Probably get them again 2 years from now.

ConsTricky to fit
ProsBullet proof
I now only use Marathon Plus tyres on my bikes. They are a true 'fit & forget' item and are the gold standard if you don't want punctures. The only down side is that they can be difficult to fit, but as has been said previously, the Spa cycles video explains some good tips on this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUFVrl0UT4].

ProsEarly to say but appear very good. Good price and quick delivery by SJS
Bought four tyres and had no trouble fitting (use zip ties to hold in place whilst fitting). Rolling resistance is better than the old worn tyres they replace.

ProsPuncture proof
this tyre needs asimple technique to fit . There's a video on Utube to show you how by the man at Spa Cycles using to straps to hold the bead on as you work it round. I hope it's easier second time if I ever get a puncture out on the road. It is also noticably heavy and slower than less puncture proof tyres

ProsBuild Quality, Ease of Fitting, Puncture Protection, Look
I have only been out on these tyres 3 times but have to say they are brilliant. They hold the road really nicely (only one hairy moment on a gravelly road) and I haven't noticed any increased rolling resistance.

I found they were quite easy to fit, it took two of us about two minutes per wheel using just our hands and no tools.

Cycling my usual 15 mile route, I haven't picked up a single puncture yet, whereas I would normally have had at least one. Only time will tell if they really are that great, but am impressed so far.

The reflective strip on the side of the tyre also looks great and adds a little extra protection for nighttime riding.

Found quite difficult to fit initially. Have only used for about 50 miles but they have good low rolling resistance much better than the Duremes that I previously had.

ConsNeed bit of patience
ProsGood wear, low rolling resistance, value
Excellent tyres just use a drop of Fairy Liquid on the last lip of the tyre before easing it over the rim managed to get both tyres replaced in 30 minutes not very easy but certainly achievable! Well worth it as the tyres have excellent rolling, faster than my previous Michelin "bald" tyres!
Looking forward to many miles of puncture free biking!

Prospuncture proof, durable tread
Since switching to Schwalbe tyres in late 90s I now will not use any other brand. I am a regular cyclist commuting, randoneuring, mountain biking, and I haven't had a single puncture for over ten years. the Marathon Plus features the most extreme punctureproof technology available, the additional weight is not really noticeable and personally i find them not too hard to fit. they roll fine, perhaps not as well as expensive racingquality tyres, but to me durability and punctureresistance are far more important. grips well on wet gravel strewn country lanes, towpaths and dry bridleways etc. They also resist wear exceptionally well. I recommend these tyres to anyone except weight obsesessives, who have the wrong end of the stick if you ask me! if you find them hard to fit try using a little washingup liquid on the bead to ease them on and make sure the tyres arent too cold as that can make them tight.

I recommend this product
Purchased two sets for wife and I with hopes of ending a seemingly unending string of flats stemming from glass strewn lanes. One month on and zero punctures. Very happy with the performance so far. As stated elsewhere, they are noticeably heavier to hold, but I can't say I've noted when riding...but I often have a child seat on bike as well. Fitting required a bit of patience and two tire irons but isn't out of the realm of the average joe.

REALLY LOVE no more punctures
VALUE exceptional for me, especially for peace of mind when commuting with children
EASE OF USE requires commitment
FUNCTIONALITY meets expectations

ConsCost, difficult to fit
ProsGood wear, good tread, puncture resistance, strong sidewalls
Very nice rugged tyre with good wear qualities but also with relatively low rolling resistance as you can run them at high pressure.

I got one for a front wheel to see how it went and was very pleased to put one on the rear with a Shimano Nexus hub gear and brake where puncture resistance is saves a lot of grief!

ConsHard to fit, Oversized
ProsDurable
I bought this to replace a Schwalbe HS368 on my back wheel which had failed due to a nick/slash. I agree with other reviewers that it was harder to fit than the 368 (or Conti 2000's which I've also used). I had to use a tyre lever to get it over the rim in the end for the first time in years.
But it wasn't impossible and I could have done it by the roadside. The idea of these tyres is that you rarely have to change them on the roadside though.
My big beef however is that the Marathon Plus is a bit thicker than the HS368. My bike is built with very little clearance under the mudguards. The manufacturer fitted it with Stelvio 700x28 slicks which spin freely. The HS368 just about spun freely with a bit of friction which wore off. The Marathon Plus would hardly turn at all until I'd filed off the top of one of the mudguard retaining screws and it still catches in places now.

Having said that, my complaint is really with Ridgeback for making a touring/audax bike with insufficient clearance for winter tyres. But if you too have a tight fit you may like to think again about buying this tyre and stick to the HS368. I wouldn't have another but only for the size reason.

ConsExtremely difficult to fit
ProsTime will tell
I am a fan of the brand and have a pair os slicks on my sportive bike and last winter used Marathon 700*28 on my winter bike. Hoping for something a little more agile I bought a pair of 700*25 this year, But this model is so extremely difficult to fit that I would not consider them again. I am dreading having a puncture when I am out!

Really tough tyres, great for both road and off-road tracks. (Just back from west coast of Scotland with them). I agree that they are quite hard to fit because they are so inflexible.

ConsHard to Fit
Looking forward to puncture free riding on these. I have the mountain bike version on my tandem and they are great.
Be warned they 700 x 25 version is hard to fit. There are probably videos one youtube to show how to do it effecively.
