Superb Touring Tyres. Best I have ever rolled on!

ConsHard to get on certain rims.
ProsRide comfort, easy rolling.
These tyres are the best out there for loaded cycle touring.
I have just bought another pair from SJS whilst I can still get them.
My touring mate and I cycled the Eurovelo 15 last year on Supremes and we only had one puncture between us in 900 miles of cycling.
They were a sod to get on the wide rims on my Kona Sutra but well worth the effort. They feel nice and sticky and give a comfortable ride on most terrains.
I run with 60psi in the rear and 50psi in the front.
Not as good as I'd hoped.

Bought these to replace original 40c tyres on my Kona Sutra as I wanted something with more puncture resistance. I've used Marathon pluses for a few years but I really don't like the ride quality and hoped these would be better. Well they are but still feel fairly leaden compared to other tyres I've used but that's the trade off? Reducing the pressures helps a lot - I've ignored the minimums (60psi for 40c) and unloaded run 40 psi rear and 38 front which improves the ride a lot. Also, they come up small, on 21mm rims they only get to 37mm wide. And I've had a puncture (prior to reducing pressures before you ask!)

ConsA wee bit heavy
ProsComfort, durability, low rolling resistance
My 3rd. set of these excellent tyres from SJS, simply because they provide a very comfortable ride on a variety of surfaces without the worry of punctures!
Not difficult to put on either, so with their inherent durability they offer the ideal solution for trouble-free touring!

ProsLong life, puncture resistance, higher widths are good on gravel
I have used these on my commuting / heavy duty touring bike for 15 years without a single puncture and over 1000 miles per year. The rears last 2500 to 3000 miles. I had a slow flat on the front once because I didn't rotate the tyres and the inner tube rotted around the valve! I reckon you could get 5000 miles on the front but I move them front to rear so hard to be sure.
The 40's are great on gravel and fast on road. Just don't expect them to feel like Conti GP5000s. Expensive but very cost effective.

ConsWeight??
ProsGrip, rolling resistance, puncture protection
I've used these on my 29er commuter bike for a couple of years. Absolutely rock solid on tarmac, even in the wet. So they were the obvious choice when it came to replacing the tyres on our tandem. I'd been running Nokia 32s, but went for 35s in the end ... Good idea as it happens as there was no way the 38s I was thinking of would have had any clearance!!

Can't wait to get out and ride now.

ProsExcellent
Excellent tyre. Only ever had puncture when it's time to replace so in a way it's a smart tyre! Great grip even under snow. Long life, good rolling speed, takes a high pressure for my large frame. Seems a shame Schwalbe have moved away from this design but I'm sure their new one is probably as good.
worth the extra

ProsReally very good.
Ordered a new Thorn that came with these, and was impressed from the start. They are about 3 times the most I've ever paid for a tyre previously. I have just finished lejog on them with a lot of gear. I had no punctures, but more impressively didn't have to top up the tyres AT ALL for the entire trip. That's amazing, frankly. Further, they are very solid and have excellent grip dry or wet, and show little wear from over 1000 miles. Not racing bike tyres to be sure, but where a few extra grams isn't an issue, buy.

ConsA little wooden, quite heavy compared to lighter tyres - doh !!!
ProsSturdy, solid, grippy, durable
Much heavier than my Conti Sports, and feels like riding on rails - but my, they instill confidence.

riding on bad cycle paths, I was always worried about the lightweight contis on my hybrid bike. Even at 1.5 inches, I was always waiting for them to puncture. They were skittish, but light and responsive.

These are the polar opposite. They feel a little dead and are 200 grams heavier, each... BUT, and it is a BIG BUT, these feel like they will last forever.

They are made of a nice sticky rubber, they feel solid and reliable and the nervousness I experienced before has gone.

Well woth the trade off. They remind me of my older Marathon Plus tyres.... BUT, are half the weight of those tractor tyres!

Great service as always from SJS - the only shop on the planet, to always have what you need, in stock !

Thanks SJS, and thanks Schwalbe.

Love and kisses.

ProsEverything
I have just taken off som schwalbe BIG BEN tyres from our Kalkhoff electric bikes and the improved performance has been quite marked even on an electric bike. They roll more easily and free wheeling illustrates how little roll resitance there is but the braking capabilities are still excellent. Probably no good for off road but for my needs, local riding and the 3 times weekly 50km run they are excellent. I have experience these tyres on a couple of Flyer bikes and they are hard wearing and some 8000 kilometres later even in the 30 degree heat in the South of France they are faultles and when the originals die I will replace with these.

Max load, is that bike rider gear, doesnt seem like much?
By

Hi,

The maximum load is per tyre, so if you mount these both front and rear you will have a maximum load of 170Kg. The load is for everything; bike, rider and any additional gear fitted to the bike.

Thanks.

Will you be offering this tire in the larger sizes? i.e. 35 and 40?
Hi,

This is the new version of the tyre, we will be stocking these in other sizes as soon as we have sold all of our stock of the older model. The older model is SJSC part number 24988.

Thanks.
