Dynamo Powered Device Charger
The award winning E-Werk is a superb new Busch & Muller product that allows the user to power or charge many modern portable electronic devices from a hub or bottle dynamo including mobile phones, cameras, MP3/MP4 players, gaming devices and GPS units etc. The power unit is easily mounted on the bike and includes output controls to vary both the voltage and current to suit the device attached. The E-Werk will be essential for touring cyclists who can now charge their phone or GPS system anywhere in the world.

The E-Werk is supplied with attachments for both SON and Shimano hub dynamos on the 'power in' side and with three connectors for the 'power out' side: Standard USB, Mini USB and Micro USB. Voltage is adjustable from 2.8 Volts to 13.3 Volts, current from 0.1A to 1.5A. Maximum power output is 16W. Used in conjunction with the Universal Cockpit Adaptor you can mount your device safely on the handlebars. For the safety of themselves and others around them riders should not use mobile devices whilst in motion.

WARNING: It is the responsibility of the user to select the correct power output for the device being used in conjunction with the E-Werk. Neither Busch & Muller or SJS Cycles will be liable for any damage caused to other equipment connected to the E-Werk.

I recommend this product
I have had my usb e-werk for 7 years and have done multi week trips with it. It’s always been very reliable and couple it with the cache battery and you won’t be disappointed.

Just be realistic though and remember that if your are planning on cycling routes with serious elevation gain you will probably need a power bank as keeping phone and garmin charged via a Dynamo will be tough.

I still highly recommend this product.

I have used my E Werk for many years now on my recumbent trike with no problems. I am charging my iPhone 7 and works very well. I am charging it with a Sun dynohub.

ConsNone really, some may baulk at the cost though
ProsRugged, provides continuous power efficiently
I recently bikepacked the munda biddi in Western Australia, 1300km taking in some single track detours, I was using this with the cache battery and a 15mm Son 28 Disc dyno hub. Contrary to what the website says the cache battery will charge iPhone 5 series directly (using the lightning connector) It will also charge lightning connected iPads (bear in mind that an iPad has 11,000 mah battery so don't expect miracles from a 3W hub). on all days I kept the following fully charged: USB lights, iPhone 5s, Garmin Edge 810 and any residual power was dumped into a 7200 mah power bank. It took a couple of soakings and 34' heat on the same few days no issues. Listening to music or watching a movie while drifting off to sleep with out having to worry about power and a very minor weight penalty is priceless, not all aspects of the modern life need to be escaped from.

ConsYou have to pay for the research and development
ProsDoes the job straight out of the tin
I enjoy cycle camping and my mobile phone serves as my communication with friends and family, information centre from internet and entertainment via videos. Keeping it charged is all important to me and I had tried solar systems and home made dynamo charging circuits. With a fully loaded tour bike I could not maintain a high enough average speed for hours on end to charge the phone.

Bought the e-werk and it works for me brilliantly. Wonderful to see that little red light on the phone that tells me its charging as I ride along anything over 9 mph. Highly recommended.

As far as I'm aware this would involve just disconnecting it.

Hi,

You can indeed purchase the E-Werk cables separately, they are SJSC part number 26742.

Thanks.
Approximately How Waterproof Is It?
By

Also, am I right in thinking that I can use this to charge the cache battery, and then (when I have stopped riding), I can connect the cache battery to my phone in order to charge it? Thanks
Hi,

Busch and Muller state that it is splash and rain water proof, we would recommend removing it or finding a way to cover it in heavy downpours though. Yes you can use this to charge the cache battery which then can be used to charge your phone when you're not riding.

Thanks.
Will The Ewerk Device Work With The Original Nabendynamo
By
25 Jan 2014
I have a Schmidts original nabendynamo 6V/3W K179 hub, which is attached to my Thorn Touring bike which I bought from SJS some years ago.
If it does work, how easy is it to install?

Thanks
Eddie, Dublin
Hi,

Yes the E-Werk will work with your hub. Fitting is relatively simple, it only becomes complex when you wish to route cables internally.

Thanks.
Will This Work With Iphone5, Ios 7.0.4?

Hi,

I'm afraid the E-Werk doesn't support any Apple software newer than IOS 4.3.3.

Thanks.
