I recommend this product
ProsIndexed rear shifter, alloy parts-no rust
Indexed rear shifter is great, as it prevents the continual problem of slipping shifter & unwanted gear change
Waste of money

ConsIt is not fit for purpose.
ProsNone
Including postage, £18.49 plus my time wasted on this. It is meant to be suitable for a triple chain ring - it is not. There is not enough movement in the lever, much less than the old Suntour shifters it was meant to replace.

ConsNot able to fit both to the fixed bosses on the bike.
ProsGreat price and good to fit using the band
So I bought these to fit directly to the bosses on the frame as a previously asked question and response indicated that this would be possible. A quick. It’s for anyone purchasing to do the same. Firstly in order to get the indexed 6 speed lever off the mounting ring you have to removed the sticker. There is a screw underneath. The friction front gear lever comes off the band by unscrewing the bolt. Nice and easy. This is where the flaw comes in. The indexed side (rear) screws on to the boss on the frame easily. The front shifter is a slightly different design and doesn’t have enough clearance in the screw hole to fit the boss.

I am still using a 6 speed freewheel on my 120mm spaced frame. I ordered these because my ancient friction levers were giving up on a tour. First time I have used indexed levers on this bike. The levers are fine, set as indexed or friction. You can see what they look like from the picture and perhaps aesthetically they don't go with a 1980s 531 frame, but I don't care about that right now. Used for 500 miles and no issues so far. Nothing more I can say. I couldn't find suitable band-on down-tube levers in shops en route, and there are very few new options available online, so I was very happy to get these.

Shimano 6 speed TY20 indexed shifter changing to friction mode
By
17 Jan 2022
Thank you for your response to my question re changing the shifter to friction mode. Can you please indicate where on the instructions this is covered asI cannot see it. In answer to an customer Christopher Evans 16/02/2016 you tell him to turn the shifter to the friction mode. How do I do this? This may be a simple question to you but I am new to this and I can’t see how to do it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
HI Mike, please email [email protected] with your query and one of the team can send you some photos on how to turn it to friction mode.

Hi, i'd like to change 1980s Raleigh (Reynolds) from friction to indexed shifting. Would these be suitable?
Without knowing the full drivetrain system we cannot guarantee compatibility.
Can It Be Used On Brazed-On Downtube Bosses?
By
10 Jun 2017
Hey. I'd like to know if the shifters can be taken off the band and attached to brazed-on bosses (standard model : square against the tube, then round, then half-round half-flat). Thanks.
Hi,

You should indeed be able to remove these form the band and mount them directly to the down tube.

Thanks.

Hello
Maybe a silly question but will these work with 7 speed ?
Thanks

Hi,

If you turn the 6spd shifter to the friction option then yes it could be used with a 7spd drivetrain.

Thanks.
Will These Fit A Cartridge Type Handlebar Stem
By

Hi,

This set of shifters is originally designed to clamp to the down tube of a bike, now whilst you can mount it else where you need to make sure that wherever you mount it has a diameter of around 28.6mm as this is the diameter of the clamp.

Thanks.
