Is this a direct replacement for an ES25
05 Nov 2020
Hi my bike has an ES25 BB in it with the exact same dimensions as this ES300, including the 118mm axle length.
Can i then fit this ES300 to my bike with no issues. ?
Hello, YES if all dimensions are the same then yes, this is just a slightly newer version for Octalink crankarms.

Suitable for Shimano 105 triple cranks, FC 5502/5505?

Hello there. Octalink triple cranks these are. Running on 118mm BB in 68mm shell at the minute. However, chainline is not great and driveside there’s a 4.5mm gap between granny ring and frame. So 113 BB would cut gap to 2mm and straighten out chainline a bit also. However, I remember reading that Octalink comes in a V1 and V2 version and the splines are not compatible between the two. Which version of Octalink is this BB and will it fit me cranks? Ta!
105 triple was V1, we stock the category Splined Bottom Brackets, however there is little choice there's the 118 you have plus a Shimano 105 BB-5500 Bottom Bracket English Thread 1.37 x 24 Double 109.5 mm (SJS Cycles part number : 42805) but this might be TOO short. According to forums it's possible to file the splines ion your existing crank 0.5mm wider to accept V2 (ES - extended spline) brackets, which are more common and in our category Splined ES Bottom Brackets....but ONLY the Shimano ones. Shimano Octalink triple chainset FCM540
23 Oct 2018
I wish to fit a Shimano Octalink triple chainset FCM540 to a 68mm shell, which length BB would you recommend? Currently I have a square taper BB 68x122.5mm.
depends on your chain line, if that's 47.5mm then 113mm, if it's 50mm then 118mm, our part # 38571 has both of those as options. RT 24/10/18
spindle length
19 Jul 2018
I have a Cannondale M400 (1997) with a 68mm bottom bracket shell (that much I can figure out).
The cranks are Shimano XT M750 Octalink.
Foolishly I threw away the old bottom bracket before purchasing a new one.....
But in my defence, I didn't realise there would be a bewildering array of sizes - surely the cranks are always the same distance from the bike????
Anyway, with the combination described above, would you be able to tell me which spindle length I need.
68 x ???
Very many thanks - appreciate it.
Hi there,

It would depend how many chainrings you are using. Your best bet is to measure the width of your chainrings and find which one will fit more suitably in to the crank arm.

I am currently using this bb. could you please recommend a smoother and lighter bb of the same specification

The Deore LX ES51 bottom bracket would be the next model up so will be smoother, but as more of the construction is made from metal it is unlikely to be lighter. Unfortunately these re the only two options still being made of this type.

Which Es300 Spindle Length For Fc2403 8 Speed Triple Chainset?
08 Dec 2015
Hi, I'd like to replace the existing chainset on my bike with the combination above.

Is there a recommended spindle length for the setup, or will I need to check my existing (square taper) setup and replace like for like?

The recommended length for the bottom bracket when used with this triple chainset would be 121mm.
