Many older bicycles use wedge-shaped fasteners called "cotters" to hold the cranks onto the bottom bracket axle.
These cotters have a nut to hold them in place after they have been driven or pressed in.
They can be difficult to remove, especially if they have been in place for a long time
The diameter of the round part of the cotter tends to be standardized according to nationality. Most use 9.5mm, including British, Asian and most German bicycles. French and Italian bicycles used 9mm, or sometimes 8.5mm

ConsIt is cheap and looks it
ProsIt does the job and it is cheap.
These are very like the cotter pins seen on cheap bicycles in the 1950s. Back then better quality items were available for expensive bicycles.
Must have for Italian bikes.

Should this fit a Gnutti chainset (70's?)? When will you be getting more of these as I need 2?
17 May 2020
Hi, we don't know if they are the correct fit for your chainset. We have 13 in stock. Thanks
I just received this item but it seems to be different to what is advertised.

The wedge cut out is shallower than expected. I have a retro Peugeot racer that uses a cotter with the slant spanning the whole length of the pin.
You will probably need - SJS Cycles part number : 29180
We have separately emailed about the incorrect item.
