What are the dimensions of these pads?

I have a 1954 New Hudson with rod brakes, but the shoes have a dovetail fitting rather than a round one, so the Koolstop rod brake inserts wouldn't fit them. My old rubber is 50mm long with the dovetail tapering from 7mm to 6mm. Will these pads fit/be able to be cut down to fit?

I'm keen to retain the original shoes if possible because I know they're correct for the BSA rod system, though I am using Raleigh stainless steel rims now.
Hi, they are 55mm long with a taper of 9mm down to 8mm. Yes you could modify them - with caution! Thanks 29/04/2019
Types Of Brakeblock For Rim Brakes On Tandems

Does the make (or the compound) of blocks make much difference to the braking power, the heat dissipation, or speed that blocks wear out at (assuming whatever type of brake you have is set up properly)?

Thanks.
Hi,

Yes, the compound in brake blocks makes a huge difference to all of those factors. The problem however is there is not one "super" block that is the best at all because as you improve the brake feel and power you have to make the blocks out of a much softer compound which will cause it to wear quicker. These blocks you are looking at are in the Salmon Compound which is there compound designed to increase braking power in wet or gritting conditions.

Thanks.
