D2O Solderless Standard Nipple - 7 mm x 12 mm

I'm trying to 'hack' together a braking mechanism for a scooter, using bike brake parts.

Is there some kind of small joining device where by I can join two brake cables of the same thickness, in line?

Is there a way of terminating a brake cable such that the termination can handle braking force when applied - ie without soldering a termination?
