What are these for?

Just bought three thinking they were terminations for my Shimano SLR outcase and cable for my Brompton. Obviously not. What are they and how can I use them with my SLR cabling? Or is it just chalked up to be a fool?
They are for use with older Shimano gearing systems, often used on cable stops. SK 30/07/24
