This is an elegant and effective design, the simple S bend shape supporting the pannier using the minimum of material, and good rigidity is achieved by fastening it on the inside and outside of the fork blades. Made of steel, it is more durable than aluminium, with, I think, a negligable weight penalty. Aluminium gets fatigued over the years until it eventually breaks, and it is rapidly worn by pannier hooks etc that always rub in the same place. I have never got into cycle touring myself despite owning all the kit – front and rear panniers are very useful for shopping as well as touring. A word of warning I would give is that this lowrider seems to be the perfect design to get snagged on brambles, much more so than a wheel quick release lever (which should be directed backwards). It’s probably not a major issue since you are unlikely to go far off the beaten track with the type of bike for which this lowrider is intended, but worth bearing in mind all the same.
