Will this work as a replacement for a SRAM Rival 1 42T chainring?
By Andrew Stewart
05 Nov 2023
I am looking to change the gearing on my 1x11 gravel bike by changing the chainring from 42T to 34T. The Hope chainring is 110BCD and 5 arm, so should fit the Rival crank and another question confirms that there is no offset, but will this give the same chainline as the existing SRAM chainring? Also, will the existing bolts work with the Hope chainring? If not, i would be grateful for advice on what i would need, including any spacers that may be needed. Many thanks.

All your existing hardware should work with this chainring. SK 06/11/23
Thinking of going 1*8 with this

I have an 8 speed CX bike with a 5 arm 50/34 compact chainring set up. I'm thinking of getting this 40T Hope single with chainring bolt spacers, derallieur extender and a 11-40T cassette. Would this work? and should I mount the chainring on the inside or outside of the arms (or whichever gives straightest line to the mid cassette?) Many thanks.
SJS Customer Service:
Ring choice will depend on the cranks you are using, provided the cranks use a 110BCD 5 arm pattern this will work, for mounting you can use narrower chain ring bolts designed to mount just one ring, I would use the line that places the chainring as close to the middle of the cassette as is possible.
Can i use this with a Shimano CX50 chainset please? If so which position please.

SJS Customer Service:
We have not fitted this to the Shimano CX50 crankset to confirm compatibility. This chainring is designed to be used with x1 systems as it does not have any pins or ramps to aid with shifting.

SJS Customer Service:
Hello- are you refering to a 105 5800 crankset? Hello, if not then no I'm afraid as the outermost chainring is offset so you could only use shimano offset chainrings.

Can I use this with 1/8" chain?

SJS Customer Service:
You can use 1/8" or 3/32nd but the 1/8 will void all benefit of the teeth shape and be a sloppier fit.

What is the offset chainline
By Anonymous

SJS Customer Service:
These are all straight with no offset, the chainline will be determined by the cranks/bb.

The transmission of my bicycle is: triple chainset Shimano Alivio (24/34/42) and a 7 speed cassette (11-28T).
I want to change the triple chainset for a single one, and I am thinking of installing the following combination:
– cranks: SJSC 110 PCD Alloy Single / Double Crankset 170mm
– chainring: Hope Retainer Ring 110mm BCD 5 Arm - Black, 38T
My doubts are:
– Is it advisable to change also the cassette and the rear derailleur?
– If so, I have thought about installing the "Shimano Acera CS-HG41 7 Speed Cassette" (it is the only one I have found with the 11-28T combination, that I like). And what rear derailleur and chain would be compatible with this set ?
Thank you very much in advance.

SJS Customer Service:
Going from a triple to a single without increasing the size of the cassette is going to massively reduce your range.
Yes that combination of cranks / chainring will be fine, just require some single ring bolts.
You only need to change the other items if the current ones are worn.

Hi, is it possible that I could use this on a shimano dura ace 7900 as a single speed only chainring? I want to run a 44t chainring on a single speed set up. I have a single 17t shimano freewheel cog.

Hi,
we never tried this ourselves so could not say for certain if it would work or not. If the BCDs match then it may possibly work.
