9 Speed triple with 10 spd cassette?
By Simon Willatts
11 Apr 2021
I have a Club Tour Mk4 currently fitted with Tiagra double front derailleur and double sprocket chainset, and 10 sprocket rear cassette.
I didn't think my choice of front mech/chainset would be impacted by the rear, but this Sora chainset is advertised as being for 9 speed - will it work with my current 10 speed rear set up?

SJS Customer Service:
No sorry, 9 speed only due to chain width

Can I use this to convert from Double to Triple chainset on my Specialized Aliez sport?
By Peter Hosking
24 Nov 2020
My 2013 Specialized Aliez Sport, size 52cm is fitted with a Shimano Sora group set, 9 speed 11-27or 28 cassette, 50–34 chainset with 170 cranks. I am thinking of fitting a triple chainset.
1. Can I fit the Sora triple c/set with 170 cranks (SJS part No 42945L170) to the existing bottom bracket? If not please advise the b/b to be used.
2. The existing STI shifter has an interim position between selecting the high and low c/rings. Can the shifter be easily adapted to accommodate a triple c/ring? If so how is this done?
3. Can the existing front mech be adjusted to accommodate a triple c/ring? If not what is the replacement part?
4. Is the existing rear derailleur compatible with a triple c/set?
5. I think the rear derailleur has a short cage. What is the largest cassette ratio that can be used with this derailleur?
6. If I convert to a triple and retain the existing cassette will I need to fit a new chain? If so, which chain should I use.
Many thanks.

Upgrade to Sora R3000 triple chainset
By Steve Adams
26 Apr 2020
Hi, I'm using a Shimano Sora R3000 groupset with a 50/34 chainset and 12/36 cassette. I'd like to upgrade to using the Sora FC-R3030 Triple Chainset - 50/39/30 (SJS part 42945l165). Am I right in thinking that I will also need:
1) Shimano Sora FD-R3030 9 Speed Triple Front Derailleur Braze-On (42939)
2) Shimano Sora ST-R3000 9 Speed Triple Road STI Levers (42948)
Also, given that I can use a 12-36 cassette with a Sora R3000 rear derailleur with medium cage should this also work with the triple chainset? Many thanks.

SJS Customer Service:
HI, yes, 1 is correct if you already have a braze on mech. 2 is correct. Yes your 12-36 cassette will work. Thanks 27/04/2020
Does this ork with the Sora 2x shofter

Hi, I 've read on a bike forum that Sora levers are the same for the double and triple set up, and the "indicator window" on my lever seems to have room to move down a gear.
So would this set plus a sora triple derailleur be a straight swap for my 50/34 sora compact set?
So would this set plus a sora triple derailleur be a straight swap for my 50/34 sora compact set?
SJS Customer Service:
This will swap straight in, but you will need to confirm your shifter is triple. Underneath, there will be a small switch to convert between 2 and 3 if you shifter is suitable.
Otherwise, you will just require a new front derailleur.

The PCD is listed as 110-4 Arm, the picture clearly shows 5 arms, which is it?
What is the PCD of the inner small ring?

Re The 'Sora' 9 Speed Triple Chainset,What Would A Suitable Bb For This ?
By Gary Chaplin

SJS Customer Service:
Hi,
This chainset will be compatible with any Shimano type Road specific bottom bracket. The exact type will also be affected by what type of bottom bracket your frame requires. If your frame takes a normal road English thread bottom bracket then the recommended bottom bracket is SJSC part number 26025.
Thanks.
