ConsIf fitting to a non Brompton bike, you may need a different bottom bracket length
ProsWell built, detailed torque specifications
I bought this crankset for a non-Brompton bike - an Elops 500 single-speed. It is a good crankset and comes with full instructions, including torque specs for each component. This is very helpful, as you don't always get this when you buy cranks.

One problem, the 119mm bottom bracket length stated on the product page does not state the chainline length that this gives. I firstly tried pairing this crankset with a 119mm JIS Thun bottom bracket and the chainline was way out - I measured this to be about 49mm. I refitted a 107mm JIS bottom bracket, which reduced the chainline to roughly 43mm (119 - 107 = 12, and 12 / 2 = 6, so 49 - 6 = 43). I mention this chainline issue as I think it could be clearer from Brompton what the chainline actually is.

The chainring on it is a 3/32 chainring, which does work with both 3/32 and 1/8 chains, but I re-fitted a 1/8 track chainring to the crank, without any issue.

Torque for crank bolt
By
13 Dec 2024
I received this crankset from you today and on the back of the box, it states that the crank bolt should be tightened to 30Nm. However, the Thun 119mm JIS bottom bracket (which I bought from you but you do not seem to sell anymore) states on its own packaging that the crank bolt should be tightened to 45Nm.

Should I go with Thun's recommendation, or Brompton's?
We advise you to use Brompton's recommendation of 30NM, this will ensure the chain set is tightened into the correct position. SK 13/12/24
Is the pedal threading the standard threading 9/16 inch x 20 TPI?

I wish to use this crankset on a non-Brompton bike.
Yes, this uses a standard 9/16 thread. SK 11/11/24
