In which direction does the bolt on the non drive side undo?
By
19 Jan 2021
I notice from a previous question... 'All you have to do is undo the bolt holding the non-drive side crank on, pull the non-drive side crank off by hand and with a bit of force you should be able to push and then pull the drive side crank arm out.' In which direction does this bolt on the non drive side undo? ie is it reverse threaded?
Hi there,

The inner bolt threads out anti clockwise, the outer is clockwise. You do not need to remove the outer.

Thanks

Would this crankset be compatible with a ceramic speed bottom bracket (e.g. BSA Shimano Road)?
By
11 Oct 2018
I'm running a Rohloff Speedhub and this crankset would be perfect to meet the required chainline. However I'd like to use a better bottom bracket then offered in this combo.
No, these use a GXP style BB.

Thanks - 12/10/18

Which Splined Sprocket Carrier?
By
05 Apr 2017
Would you buy the normal Rohloff splined sprocket carrier or the slim version for use with this item?
Hi,

This chainset would be best suited to use with the standard splined Rohloff sprocket carrier.

Thanks.
Replacement Bb
By
05 Apr 2017
Could the following be used as a replacement BB for this item?
Hi,

Unfortunately that bottom bracket you are looking at is a different size than what is required for use with this crankset. The replacement bottom bracket you require is SJSC part 24783.

Thanks.
Old Rohloff Replacement
By
28 Dec 2016
Hi, Would this (Thorn 130 PCD EX Bearing Single Crankset - With Integral Bottom Bracket) be a good chainset to replace a worn square tapper set (that seems to loosen frequently- especially in the winter) on a Rohloff (old type?- 2008) equipped bike on a frame with a Bushnell eccentric bottom bracket - would the chainline be good (given your comment that its best suited to the new splined Rohloff)? Also I'll want a 40t ring - any recommendations? Or ... would I be better (and would it be cheaper) to use an alternative solution? Thanks
Hi,

Although slightly better suited to the new splined chainline this crankset would still be suitable for use with an older Rohloff. We normally recommend out Thorn single chainrings for use with Rohloff set ups as they are hard wearing and can be reversed. These chainrings in the correct fitment for this crankset are SJSC part 11055.

Thanks.
58Mm Chainline? Jis Taper?
By
23 Aug 2016
Hi,
How would the 54mm chainline be increased to 58mm for the new splined Rohloff hub?
Also, are the cranks JIS taper?
Thanks very much.
Hi,

The chainline for these cranks was actually always slightly out with the old Rohloff chainline, so these cranks are actually better suited to the new 58mm chainline. As these are an external bearing type crankset they don't use a square taper bottom bracket so they don't have a taper like JIS.

Thanks.
Cover For Axle Tube
By
13 Sep 2014
When assembled, does the drive side crank have a black cover for the hole at the end of the axle tube or is the tube uncovered?
Hi,

As with all Hollowtech style cranks the drive side cranks is always uncovered where the axle is.

Thanks.
Crank Removal Tool
By
12 Apr 2014
Hi,

Which tool is used for this type of crank, it looks like a big grub screw would do the trick screwed into the inner thread of the axle tube.

Hi,

This type of crankset doesn't use a removal tool as such. All you have to do is undo the bolt holding the non-drive side crank on, pull the non-drive side crank off by hand and with a bit of force you should be able to push and then pull the drive side crank arm out.

Thanks.
What Is The Chainline For This Set
By
11 Oct 2013
This looks similar to the standard equipment on the Thorn Mercury. Would it therefore have a 54mm chainline?
Hi,

Yes these cranksets were designed around a single ring set up to match the Rohloff hubs and therefore have been designed around a 54mm chainline.

Thanks.
