To replace damaged derailleur on old touring bike. It works fine. Triple ring 9 speed set up with 4 different grades of Shimano on it. And it works a treat. What more could one ask?

Am building a 1 x 9 drivetrain mtb for my son, have a 32t front cog and a 12-36t cassette with Alivio 9 speed shifter. Would like a medium cage mech and wondered would this work. Thanks
For a 36t cassette, you will need a long cage (sgs) type rear mech.
will sora medium take a 34t sprocket

I have 9 speed Sora 48/32 front and 11/32 cassette. I want to change to a 12/36 cassette will this medium cage be suitable ?
In this derailleur you can use SS or GS, there is no "long cage", just longer! This will be suitable up to 34t cassettes. If you need 36t you can use a MTB derailleur - 9 speed Shimano has compatible pull ratio for both. - SJS Cycles part number : 38741 would be a nice choice.

Alternatives to a long cage?

As a long cage is not available, will an Alivio long cage rear derailment work. I have SHIMANO ST-3503 SORA STI road levers. Triple chain rings 50-39-30 and a 9 speed 11-32 cassette. Alternatively which inner/outer plates would I buy to convert the Sora med cage to a long cage?

I need a long cage, as I run a triple chain ring. Do you have one or any suggestions?

unfortunately, we do not stock a sora long cage, however, we do stock them in different Shimano series such as Alivio although we do understand this may not be suitable for you.

I want to replace a RD-4400 GS medium cage derailleur. Rear cassette is 12-25.

Would this Sora RD-3000 GS medium cage be suitable? Any other suggestions?

Hi, yes, it is suitable for 11-34 cassettes. However if you want to run a triple chainring setup you should use a long cage mech. Thanks. 02/05/2019

You should get away with using that with this shifter, However, as we have never done this we cannot say for certain I'm afraid.

9 speed BBB 11-21 cassette
A GS cage R3000 derailleur will take up to an 11-34, if you only plan to use 11-21 we would recommend a SS cage - SJS Cycles part number : 42944
