ConsJust not very accurate
ProsDoes the job
Not really short cage but more medium cage. So the shifting is not as accurate as a true (yesteryear) short cage. Plus this is the second one I’ve bought (there is nothing else available it seems) and the last one seized up after only 2 years.

I ride 54/42 chainrings with a 13-25 cassette and down tube shifters

This will depend on the range of the cassette: 37 tooth total capacity, rear sprocket size range 11-32T
Is this suitable to replace a Shimano 2300?

Original fitment is Shimano 2300 derailleur with 13-26t 8-speed sprocket - now has play in main pivot bolt allowing entire rear mech to float slightly
This would not quite align, SJS Cycles part number : 44765 would be perfect.
