I use one of these on my Garmin 800 and works all the time, even when Garmin operating. Sounds like its the Garmin 705 that has an issue, not the lead.

Charging An Edge 705 From A Luxos U

ProsCharges the Edge 705

I bought this to use for charging an Edge 705 from the USB output on the Luxos U control. The edge will charge but not operate at the same time. Using the output cable supplied with the light (round plug to standard size USB) connected to USB to mini USB (used with battery power pack) the edge works OK and charges. I think the wiring in this cable will not work to allow operating/ charging concurrently.

I'd just like to say thank you for your review of this item, but it does sound like the issue you are experiencing is caused by your Garmin not by this cable despite you managing to get it to work using a different cable set up. A device like a Garmin is designed to run off of battery power when active and be charged separately, it will not have been designed to be able to operate whilst you are trying to charge it.
