Can highly recommend this product

I recommend this product
I have tried to replace old high quality (Shimano and Regina) Freewheels which have provided years of trouble free use and are no longer available. This due to the smallest ring teeth having worn out. The IRD Cyclone is the only freewheel which I have found "fit for purpose". All the low cost versions which I have purchased are noisy. They develop large amounts of bearing play after just a few miles and have to be "chucked away". I have found the left hand thread on the outer cone can't be accurately adjusted and secured (As with the Cyclone, you should be able to fit it and forget it.) I'm surprised that SJS Cycles would market the low cost ones as in my experience it's a waste of time fitting them.
Good once greased

I recommend this product
ConsLack of internal lubrication
ProsGood gear range, fair price/quality point
Bought to replace a worn out Regina on a 1983 Claud Butler. The lower gearing (32T) makes the local South Wales hills a bit more bearable. After the first ride (about 60 miles, including a pause by a windy beach) it was sounding pretty rough, as if sand had got into it. As the other reviewer did, I stripped and greased the bearings. It now runs smoothly and near silently. Apart from the lack of lubrication, it looks well finished and fair quality.
Good quality but you will need to grease

ConsNo lubrication
ProsGood quality
It is nicely made, and good 5 speed freewheels are hard to get these days, but it is assembled with no internal lubrication, so the bearings are very noisy. I dismantled mine and greased it and now I'm very pleased with it. To be fair I've had others that have the same problem.

What’s a high torque application?

excessive load such as when sprinting, hill climbing, or when being used on a tandem.. SK 23/01/24
To replace a Suntour ‘Perfect’ freewheel
21 Jan 2024
Will this replace a Suntour ‘Perfect’ freewheel, which I believe (but am not certain) has an English thread?
If not, will any of the 5 speed freewheels you sell work?
All Freewheel threads now are ISO thread, they will thread onto an English threaded hub but will not be a perfect fit and should be avoided in high torque applications. SK 23/01/24
Is this a threaded freewheel? If so what thread is it?

Yes it's a threaded freewheel, it uses standard Shimano-type threading.

Can this be used with a 9 speed chain?
13 Jan 2022
I want to use it with a tall/narrow chainring that specifies 9 speed and above chains
NO, 9-speed chain will be too tight- you need a 9-speed freewheel for that.

Does this have shaped teeth?
07 Sep 2021
The ramps and cut away teeth that previous IRD frewheels and Sunrace freewheels have, or plain teeth like an old Regina freewheel?
Thank you for your enquiry, it has plain section teeth
Does this freewheel index with shimano shifters?
24 Nov 2020
Will these index with a shimano system? I have an old 7 speed XT shifter I would like to use (obviously I will not be able to use 2 shift positions)
This will only index with 5-speed Shimano shifters.
