ProsGood fit, quailty and performance.

I bought this to replace a Shimano 14-28 as I wanted a bit higher top gear without going to the bother & expense of converting to a cassette.
It works brilliantly - runs quietly, and coupled with a new SRAM chain the gear shifting is smooth and precise, in fact better than it's ever been. Maybe the chrome plating helps in this respect.
Terrific value for money, build quality is very good.

I've been running this freewheel for about 5000 miles.
No problems so far. Nice silver freewheel which goes with my 30 year old tourer, and replaces the old worn Sachs Maillard 13-30 which was on it previously.

I bought this freewheel to replace a defective Shimano one on my son's rather old mountain bike. Fitting was simple using the Shimano removal tool and to date it has performed faultlessly. My son prefers this freewheel because of the 13t small cog compared with 14t on the Shimano.

What tool to remove the lockring?

Hello, I want to remove the lock ring on this freewheel, do you know which 4 prong tool I need to remove the lock ring ?

Thank you for your enquiry. This freewheel uses a standard freewheel remover so you would need something like our item number 22213 which is the IceToolz Cassette Tool for Shimano MF & Campagnolo.

I recently swapped my MTBs Shimano MFTZ21 (14/28) to the Sunrace 13/25, along with a new Shimano HG40 chain (7.3mm as recommended). But I now feel a constant grinding/vibration when I peddle, it’s not smooth like the old MFTZ21/HG40 set up.
When not riding/checking the indexing there’s no sound and the gears shift fine. After only 250 miles the chain is nearly at 0.75 and slips in and out of gear when peddling with force.
Did I choose wrong by using a road cassette on a MTB (I wanted a tighter teeth ratio) or would a different chain make/model stop the vibration?

That chain / cassette should be absolutely fine. The issue my be that your chainrings are worn. We recommend heading for the local bike shop and have them take a look.

Suitable replacement for the Shimano MFTZ 500-7 freewheel unit?

I have a new Brand-X road bike fitted with the O/E 7spd Shimano MFTZ 500-7 14-28t freewheel unit.
As I want to increase the gearing slightly would this Sunrace Index 7spd 13-28t unit be a suitable replacement?

Hi,

Providing you hub has an English 1.375" x 24TPI thread then this freewheel will screw on without any issues. Mavic however produced hubs in both English thread and French thread (1.366" x 25.4TPI) so you'll need to carefully check which your hub uses.

What Is The Stack Height For This Product Please?

I have an old racer with 126mm dropout spacing looks like there's about 39-40mm available for the freewheel, it may be that sunrace's 6 spd is a better option, again not sure what the stack height is there.

It does not say in the product description if it has Shimano spacing between ratios. The cycle has a Shimano shifter and derailleur.

I'm afraid without some more information I'm going to have no idea if it will fit your bike. This freewheel fits to any wheel that is designed to take a screw on freewheel, if your wheel is like this then it will fit, if its not then it will not fit.

Does This Need To Be Torqued Up When Fitted?

If yes, what torque setting would be suitable?

This would not need to be torqued up. As long as it is done up fairly tight initially, pedalling the bike will keep tightening it up as far as it needs to as well as keeping it tight enough.
