ConsA bit expensive?
ProsWorks with old-style four speed hubs.
Further to Tony's question dated 31-7-2020 and SJs's answer, I have found that this SLS-40 thumb shifter IS compatible with old-style Sturmey Archer hubs, of the era when they were made in Nottingham. An old FG hub (4 speed and dynamo) is now working fine, thanks to this shifter. I therefore deduce that it will also be OK with the FW, FM and FC four-speed hubs, dating back to the 1950's or so.

Is this shifter compatible with an old four speed FM hub with an indicator spindle.

The original shifter has seem better days. I don’t think a new version of the traditional 4 speed trigger is available any more.
The original shifters can often be found on ebay, the original shifter did 3 or 4 which implies the 1st 3 were the same, I can't find any information of this so regrettably we can't give a definative answer. RT 03/0/2020
