ProsWell engineered rock solid and functional. And use standard cheaper cabling than Bromptiion.

I’ve de cluttered my brake levers from the over complicated and unreliable Brompton plastic changers to functional reliability with Sturmey trigger and thumb shifters. Phew!

Good and efficient service, SJS do what they say they will do, no excuses, just well organised.

These have been around for more years than I have been riding bikes... History speaks for itself.
If you has a 3 speed hub you need one of these. You wont go wrong.

To me, this is the archetypical Sturmey Archer 3 speed shifter. Other thumb style shifters can sometimes stick part way between gears which can damage the gear hub. As for twist shifters, I find I sometimes overshoot the gear I want and these, too, are not always precise. By design, this classic trigger avoids these issues. It's easy to fit to the bike, no need to remove grips and brake levers. It does require a special outer cable ferrule and inner wire, but these are readily obtainable as spares.

This shifter has been around in various forms since at least the 1930s and put simply, it works. The action is comfortable and reliable. I am very pleased that Sturmey still make this item.

Can I use this on my 2017 Brompton M6l part no 19268

I’m having problems with the integrated 3 speed changer on my 2018 Brompton, I would like to use the type originally used, they never went wrong, in 15 years I only ever replaced one.
I’ve just replaced the new one and there appears to be an on going problem when there left in sun.

Will This Work On A 3 Speed Brompton?

Hello I have a 3 speed Brompton but the gear shifter on it feels very flimsy. Could I fit this as an alternative?

Hi,

Although this shifter is compatible with a Brompton, it requires a specific Sturmey Archer cable like SJSC part 33901. You would then need to measure this up against your existing Brompton cable to assure its the same length.

Will It Fit My Raleigh Bicycle?

My bicycle was bought in 1982.The thumb shifter needs to be changed.This model looks the same as mine.Will it fit?In the Sturmey Archer catalogue the ref. number is :SLS 3C R33 speed classic ratio thumber shifter.

This should fit your bike fine, it is the modern equivalent and replacement part for your previous shifter so will work fine with your hub.

Unfortunately we don't know if this will work, its possible it will but it is also possible that they use a slightly different cable pull. Also this shifter uses a different cable to most other shifters and therefore will require a Sturmey Archer cable with a long and thin nipple on it.
