ConsNone

ProsCheap and do the job. Don’t look cheap.

Work well with a 7 speed freewheel and vintage Dura Ace mech.

Friction/Index

One of the reviews indicates the 8 speed shifter can be switched to friction however, one of the SJS customer Service Q and As indicated that the 8 speed side is index only.

Can you please confirm if the 8 speed side can be switched to friction?

The left hand is friction and the right hand is index so you can use them together without an issue.

Can these be used for barends?

I have an old Shimano barend shifter with broken handles, seeing as these use same braze bosses as Shimano, would it be possible to mount them on my old Shimano barends if i remove the old broken handles?

This will probably work, but we honestly have not tested it!

converting gears

Hi I currently have an 18 speed set up on my dawes galaxy, I have a new set of wheels to take an 8 speed freehub could I use these ok also adding a new derailleur and chain. I also believe my current spacing is 126mm for the rear wheel but an 130mm will fit in. And lastly will the front triple work ok with this set up. Many Thanks

In theory you could use these with a 7spd cassettes but as the shifters are 8spd you would just have an extra click that didn't do anything.

Is it possible to use the right hand lever in friction mode or will it only work in index mode?
