Not a wide enough grip for me

The overall length of 100mm means that my hand (10cm wide across knuckles) overlaps the Rohloff twist shifter grip by nearly 2cm. Fine if you don’t mind part of the twist shifter grip under your fingers most of the time but I decided to get the standard 144mm length GP5L and trim length with Stanley knife so I’ve got a full 10cm hand grip on the GP5.

ProsEasy to fit and adjust, multiple positions.
I bought a pair of these to finish off the conversion of our 1989 Dawes tandem to flat bars. ... Ended up fitting them to my 29er commuter bike to test them out ... Looks as though I'll need another pair for the tandem.

Finally able to get a comfortable position, with no numb hands.
Very comfortable but..

ConsEasy to break, expensive
ProsComfortable
Used them for many a mile and they helped keep my hands comfortable. However, there is only a very short piece of metal inside the barends themselves and this means that if you land on them they snap very easily. I've broken 3 now in light crashes - it gets expensive.

ProsPerfect for a touring bike
Replacement for worn out Ergon grips on my Thorn Raven. Easy to fit and bar ends are a great extra - really comfortable and gives useful change of position, especially uphill. End plugs are easily removed for bar end mirror

We already have Ergon grips which are great but I wanted some bar risers to give me more hand positions on our Thorn tandem. These grips are very comfy and gave me just what I needed

Prosthe best grips I've ever used
Could not be more pleased with the Ergon GP5 grips. They've changed the feeling of the whole bike! Absolutely no hand numbness! This was a major reason for purchasing the Ergon GP5s and they more than met my exppectations...
Must read instructions even if you think you don't have to. They've made it very clear and must be followed to the letter...
An Expensive But Worthwhile Purchase.

Cons: None what so ever.
ProsComfort, position.
I bought these on the recommendation of my bike builder for my bespoke build hybrid bike. And very comfy they are too! The new bike feels just "right" with these fitted, much appreciated when climbing hills "Out Of The Saddle.

Unfortunately you simply need to trim the RH grip down to size.

Ergon GP5-L Grips
By
14 Nov 2019
I currently have Ergon GP1L on Thorn Comfort bars. How much wider is the Ergon GP5-L. I am not sure if they will fit. The bike has Shimano XT levers & changers.
The grips are no wider, the bar end is just larger.

So i dont have to worry about this "Nexus and Rohloff" bit on the title
You need to order the item using the part code provided, these grips will not be suitable. If you search for SJS Cycles part number : 28217LRG, these are the suitable grips.

Can the Ergon GP5 handle grips with bar ends be used with a handle bar
By
05 Jul 2018
I need to replace my Ergon GP1 Rohloff handle bar grips. I use a right hand side bar end mirror with these. A mirror is critical to me. Could a bar end mirror be used with the GP5 grips or similar types. If not can you recommend another mirror option for a fully loaded bike should I opt for the GP5 grips.
Hi

Thank you for your enquiry, you will be able to use a mirror as these grips have a removable bar-end plug so as long as you have a mirror that plugs in to the bar-end then it will be ok.

Would It Fit With Sturmey Archer 8Speed Twist Grip?

My Moulton TSR8 has SA 8speed twist changer on RH bar. Are these grips compatible? Thanks.
Hi,

These grips should be fine for use with your bike.

Thanks.
Size And Year?

Please define Small and Large?
Please confirm that these are the (updated) 2015 model with plug ends (suitable for a bar end plugin mirror). Your picture is the older model. Thanks
Hi,

The small and large are for two different sized grips; the main differences are in the diameter of the round part of the grip and the size of the palm platform, the overall length and the length of the bar end are the same for both sizes. We would recommend the large size for everyone other than children and women with very small hands. This is indeed the most up to date version that does have bar end plugs rather than a full covered end.

Thanks.
Bar End Mirror
By
02 Nov 2015
I wish to fit a bar end mirror to my 2015 Mercury. However the GP5 bar ends fitted have a slotted end rather than the cap fitted on the latest 2015 GP5 grips. I'm reluctant to cut the end of the bar end, is it possible to purchase the latest right hand bar end only i.e. Not the full grip?
Hi,

I'm afraid that these Ergon grips are only sold as pairs and are not available individually.

Thanks.

Do I get both grips for £ 56 or just the one for the shifter side?
Thanks
Hi,

These grips are sold as a pair, so the price is for a pair.

Thanks.
