Perfect Solution To Eliminate Spray

ProsGood length extension
The chrome plastic mudguards that Halfords fitted to a new bike with 700C wheels proved to be to short and failed to eliminate the spray from the rear wheel. The SKS Long Mudflap proved to be the perfect solution to gain that extra length of guard extension over the entire wheel. Easy to install with a single drilled hole through the existing mudguard.

ProsEasy to fit, works well.
Bought this to fit to some SKS mudguards on my 20- inch wheel folder. Easy to fit and works to stop the excess spray not captured by the mudguards from covering me on my commute. Well worth the asking price.
Could Be Better

I recommend this product
ConsHeavy, Screw not strong, Could be lighter
ProsLong, wide, hold their shape, better than any other mudflap on the market
These mud flaps are quite heavy, which causes the mudguards to vibrate and sometimes rattle and rub on the tyre. Mud and gunk buildup gets stuck on the inside on the mudflap as the transition between mudguard and flap is not seamless and the mudflap is quite thick which can cause a buildup of mud.

Plastic screw included is GARBAGE. Had to use my own M5 screws with washers and M5 nuts. The plastic screw threads are not strong and pop out easily, fall off and then get lost on the road.

Could be thinner and lighter to prevent excessive vibration.

ProsIt works great, normally easy to fit
I have a Raleigh Velo Cite pedelec bike with SKS mudguards fitted as standard. The rear has a short rubber mud flap but nothing on the front. Result was that the front wheel threw debris up over the bottom 10 inches of the front down tube and also onto the chain..... in spite of a partial chain guard. The only problem was which size to buy as SJS only supply the small and large sizes. My mudguard is 48 mm wide. I decided on the small one as I figured I could always reduce the width of the mudguard over the fixing length. In trying to fit the flap I split the thin rubber web on the tyre side of the flap. However it did now fit so I made up a support strip cut from a hard thin bottle of the same radius and simply put this behind the fixing washer. Job dome and it works perfectly. No more mud and grit. I think the large version would have been too sloppy so this is a good solution for medium size mudguards. I see that the 2013 version of my bike has an SKS long flap fitted as standard so perhaps SJS could be persuaded to stock the inbetween size too.

Summary. Great flap that does what is intended, easy to fit and solves a common problem at the right price.

ConsDrilling the hole
ProsDoes what's expected very well
At last I now have dry shoes & feet (almost) when riding through puddles and mud.
Easy to fit, once you have drilled a 6mm hole at the end of the SKS mudguard.
It does what it's supposed to very effectively, typical German design.

Consno instructions - its a 6mm hole
Prosits long and stops crud
Right, other than ordering the too narrow size for the intended bike this is a great mud flap. It holds its shape, so ideal for the back, particularly good if you guard is a bit short or you have a trailer.
Now there are no instructions, so what you need to do is drill a 6mm hole in the right place, with the flap in place insert the rivet, slip washer on the othr side and push the pin. job done

Proswell made and simple to fit
These mudflaps are great, and were really easy to fit, even though mine are to big as i measusured the mudguard wrong, measure across the curve of the mudguard at the back with a straight edge, i measured the curve at the front hence to big, but still do a fantaastic job and no wet feet, well worth the money.

Very nice mudflap. Makes your mudguards 10 cm longer, and your feet dryer. Drill a 6 mm hole and put the metal washer on the inside. Pretty simple.

ProsEasy to fit
SKS mudguard had lost original flap so required hole was there. Instructions for use of rivet would have helped but trial and error enabled a successful fitting. It has just survived five days of mud and heavy rain on TPT. Looks like a great product.

ProsWell made
As appears to be usual with SKS products it is well made, but comes with no fitting instructions, thankfully the previous reviewers above had worked it out for me.

Doesn't look too dorky. Though if SKS made their mudguards long enough in the first place these wouldn't be necessary.

i driiled a 6mm hole thru mudguards quite close to the end of the mudguards as 5mm was too tight.easy fit with push thru rivets, mount the front mudflap as low as possible to catch the spray from the front wheel to keep your feet dry.well made and cheap so i bought two one for the front and one for the rear.older riders have diy mudflaps made from sauce bottles.oil cans and so on but by the time you buy a pop rivet gun to use once wots the point!most people got access to a drill so i would buy them everytime cause thats all u need to fit these mudflaps.10/10
Works Well So Far...

ConsInstructions would've been helpful
ProsWell made and effective
I fitted SKS Bluemels mudguards at end of summer, which are very good, but I still got wet feet in really heavy rain storms. I also wanted one for the rear to prevent spray annoying other riders.

As another reviewer said, the mudflaps came with no instructions, but SJS's product description helped. I drilled a 5mm hole in the mudguards, but had to make it a little wider with a rat tail file so the rivet could push through. I put the metal washer on the inside of the mudguards over the rivet. The pushpin was hard to push through, but I managed to get sufficient force by protecting my thumb with an old leather belt.

The fit is very tidy and seems secure. The front mudflap works excellently. A recent 4 hour ride on very wet roads and my feet were dry. Overshoes were only slightly damp on the outside, so my feet stayed warm.

I don't know how effective the rear mudflap will be, I suspect I may need a longer one. Will have to wait til I get fit enough to join local CTC to find out!

Fit my Planet Bike mudguards nicely, looks tidy and does the job.

As mentioned there were no instructions on using the rivet.

My understanding is that it's a drive rivet, you push the rivet into the hole, place the washer over the rivet on the inside of the fender, then hammer the stalk of the rivet through into the centre of the rivet.

A bit fiddly if the fenders are attached to the bike.

Bluemels 65Mm
By
26 Jul 2016
I have just purchased some 65mm Bluemels for my 29er.. Will I be able to get these on at a squeeze ? Willing to cut the guards to make fit as I have a set of these on my tourer and they have been great.
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

Although it is not something we have tried so we can't say for sure if it is the 700x65mm guards you have purchased then hopefully you should be able to get them to fit with your 29er.

Thanks.

Hello,

Need to know which flaps you have that can fit onto my http://premiumbikegear.com/product/sksmudguardsfortern/

I am looking at this and http://premiumbikegear.com/product/sksmudguardsfortern/

Also will be great if you provide the dimensions of these flaps. Thank you.
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

In theory any of the SKS mudflaps will be compatible with you mudguards because even if you do not have a mounting hole there already you can just drill a new one to fit the mudflaps. The width measurement at where it fits to the mudguard is the only important dimension and these are listed up for every SKS mudflap we sell.

Thanks.

How To Measure
By
08 May 2015
Would this be across the edges of the mudguard, or around the curve edge to edge? For my mudguards the former is 45mm and the latter is 60mm
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

Mudguards are measured across the gap, from edge to edge.

Thanks.
Sks Long Mud Flap, Confirmation Of Size Required
By
17 Mar 2015
Although my tyre width size is 35mm the actual size of the Sks mudguard fitted is 60mm wide. Do I go for the the larger of the two sizes advertised?
Also, is the flap suitable for the rear mudguard?
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

The width of the mudflap needs to relate to the width of the actual mudguard you are fitting it to, so you would need to go for the larger size to fit your 60mm guards. This mudflap is suitable for use on the rear mudguard as well.

Thanks.
Hi Will These Fit On 35Mm Sks Bluemels?
By
22 Oct 2014
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

They would sit wider than you mudguards, but they still attach in the same way as the narrower ones so you could in theory fit them, they would be able to move about alight and change their angle as they would not sit flush to the guard. I would recommend going for the SKS Raceblade mudflap.

Thanks.
Hi, Would This Fit The Rear Gaurd Of The Sks Velo 42?
By
03 May 2014
I have a dog trailer and need to extend the back mudgaurd length. If this wouldn't fit can you reccomend anything else please.
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

Some modification will be required but in theory you could mount the smaller size to the SKS Velo 42 mudguards.

Thanks.
Would This Mudflap Fit My Sks Longboard 700 X 35Mm Guard
By
01 Feb 2014
the front guard flap broke while riding through a flooded lane !
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

Although it technically could fit as it is wider than your current guard it is likely that it won't fit well. I'd recommend using the SKS Raceblade instead as it is designed for 35mm guards.

Thanks.
Will This Fit On Any Fender I Happen To Have On My Bike?
By
11 Nov 2013
Re SKS Long Mud Flap. Also: How do I select the right size? I've been told that this mudflap is only to be fitted to SKS mudguard/fenders. I've been counselled to go with the Brooks mudflap for my application. I own a Kalkhoff Aggatu C8 XXL. Your answers will help me decide. Do you concur?
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

There's nothing stopping you using the SKS mudflaps if they are the same shape as your current mudguards, the Brooks mudflap is more universal as it is leather and is more pliant and can be shaped to whatever you need. If you are going to go for the SKS' you'll need to measure the width of your current mudguards and choose which size best matches that.

Thanks.
