I recommend this product
I've bought many of these and I now only ever upgrade to them on any vintage 3-speed I'm renovating. They are awesome! However, they're not 580 ERD. 576 is what I've found.

Full marks to SJS for continuing to supply rims for vintage and veteran English bikes, with the correct spoking option. Excellent match for my 1935 Raleigh, to rebuild new wheel using original hub.

Consnot a polished finish, a little wider than is ideal, not as good as the Sun rims
ProsAvailability, Price
I have these rims on my 1947 Rudge Pathfinder (a 40 and a 32) and they are great, it's fantastic to have 32 and 40 hole alloy 590mm rims available in the UK finally.

I don't think they're as nice as the Sun CR-18 590mm rims which are available in the US and which I also have some of and which nominally retail for about the same price, however with distribution as it is, the Sun rims are very expensive because of import vat, charges and shipping. These are therefore the best value rims in their size, if not the absolute best.

ConsNothing really.
ProsLight, well made, available....
Bought these to replace the steel rims on a pre war BSA. It is very difficult to find 40 hole 590 rims, but these are excellent. They are quite light at around 440g and they build into a very nice wheel. It allowed me to reuse my original SA hub.

ERD

Hi. Is it 578 or 580 ERD? Your specs say 580, but your answer to the question posted in the Q&A says 578.

Thank you
Hello, the manufacture has said these have an ERD of - 580mm. We suggest using this measurement for wheel building calculations.

Thanks,

at 578mm ERD, are these a swap for most English 3-speeds?

I'm hoping to just re-lace using the spokes I have and honestly I don't really know how to determine the ERD on my current older steel rims. Have you found that these will generally swap fine or will I likely have to buy all new spokes?
NO- We cannot confirm this and would advise you take your wheel to a local bike shop to have its ERD confirmed. You will most likely require new spokes.
Please can you tell me the ERD of this rim

If I know the ERD in advance I can calcuate the spoke length and so order spokes at the same time as the rim, this saves having to place a separate order for spokes after measuring the ERD. Many thanks
Hi there,

Measured at 578mm.

Thanks
