Details
Once or twice a year, spread the wax on the top and the under part of the saddle. Let the leather absorb the wax and when dry, gently rub the upper side of the top with a smooth rag.

Do not apply wax on a dirty or wet saddle.

ProsDoes the job well
Bought this to use on my leather Selle Anatomica. Easy to use -rub on small amount and work into leather. Leave for 12 hours and polish . Left nice finish. Cheaper than some other brands, does the same job. SJS brilliant service as normal.

ProsRight for Berthoud saddles, should last a while
No point in buying an expensive Berthoud saddle and then spoiling it by using some inferior or unsuitable dressing. This is good stuff, at a reasonable price.

ProsEasily absorbed and rubbed in - claims to keep the saddle nourished, waterproof and supple
I've been riding on leather saddles for about 45 years now, and yet I only recently discovered this Gilles Berthoud saddle dressing. I'm really glad I did. In the past, I've used another well-known brand (begins with B and rhymes with "hooks"), but I'd found it rather sticky and slow to rub in - even with vigorous rubbing and a bit of warmth (sorry, that doesn't sound quite right...).

By contrast, the Gilles Berthoud dressing is much nicer to use and rubs in quickly, softening with the warmth of your fingertips. Once it has rubbed in, it doesn't leave any sticky residue, and buffs up to a nice sheen. I've not tested it to see how water-resistant it is yet (it claims to be), but given how it absorbs nicely, I think it should be pretty decent - and very likely better than the English product I've been using all these years. Price-wise it's on a par with Brooks, and a tin will last for a long time anyway

As a side benefit, it also smells really nice!
