The BBT-9 is used to remove & install external bearing crankset bottom brackets. One end of the BBT-9 securely engages the 16 notches of the bottom bracket cups. The other end of the tool engages the 8 internal splines of the crank arm adjustment cap. The BBT-9 fits cups & lockrings with 16 external notches & an outside diameter of approximately 44mm.

-The BBT-9 works with many external bearing crankset bottom brackets, including: Shimano Hollowtech II, Campagnolo Ulta-Torque & Power Torque, Race Face, FSA, SRAM, Truvativ, Chris King, Phil Wood Outboard Bearing & Hawk-Racing.
- The BBT-9 also fits rotor disc lockrings which use 16 external notches.
- Warning: this tool has a long handle & it is possible to damage the tool or the component by overtightening during installation.
- Recommended torque setting for bottom bracket cups: 35 - 50 Nm.
- Recommended torque setting for crank arm adjustment cap: 0.4 - 0.7 Nm.

Tool consists of two parts - the big "ring spanner" for the bottom bracket itself, and the little plastic splined knob that plugs into the end of the crank.

The spanner is straightforward and fits directly on some of these bottom bracket bearings, like the SM-BB51 that I was taking off the bike. My replacement BB-XT800 is a smaller diameter, but included with the bearing was a plastic reducer that clips into the tool and allows it to be used on the smaller bearing. Would be a problem if you were buying the tool just to do maintenance on one of these newer bearings rather than replacement and so don't have the reducer.

The plastic knob for the crank end bolt didn't fit perfectly on my cranks (the actual mating part is fine, but due to the shape of the crank it wouldn't sit squarely). Would be nice if it were a bit longer. However, it was good enough to get the job done as this normally needs only finger-tightness.
