Fitted straight into the maillard hub like a glove. No problems whatsoever. Excellent bit of kit.

I recommend this product
ConsAn expensive tool but essential for vintage French rebuilds
ProsPerfect for Maillard/Normady cassette freewheel
Another tool added to my professional workshop/mobile bicycle repair business. Only this tool will release the Maillard Normady cassette freewheel from the hub. It's also needed if you want to crack open the same cassette freewheel to service the bearings and pawls. All in all well made and perfect for vintage/retro repair/restoration/rejuvenation.

ConsExpensive for limited use if not professional workshop, probably better to let LBS do it.
ProsDid the job - eventually
Most effective way is to fit freewheel remover in using axle nut or QR skewer to secure it. Turn wheel upside down and secure flats of tool in vice and turn wheel anti clockwise, freewheel should come of with a bit of a fight.
Not the best design

ConsNeed very tight fitting open ended spanner or shallow flats make it easy to slip
ProsGood fit in the actual freewheel
Hard to find Maillard freewheel remover with just two shallow flats, so need very tight fitting open ended spanner making it difficult to get additional leverage. Would be better with a hexagon top giving more flat sides and the ability to use a socket and bar.

ConsBit pricy for what it is
ProsGood tool
Does exactly what it says on the tin ! Fastened in a vice, the hub can be easily unscrewed by firmly turning the wheel rim anticlockwise

ProsGood fit, good quality metal
I'll only use this a couple of times a year, but for those infrequent times it's perfect. Metal seems of good quality compared to some out there.

Proswell-made, effective
This was the only tool that would enable me to remove an old freewheel, which it did very effectively. Trouble is, it cost me so much for a single use. Does anyone want a once-used freewheel remover?

Measurements confirmation

I have a Maillard cassette, spline count is 24 as per this tool, however measuring the internal part in situ gives me around 30mm minimum and 32mm maximum (ie over the internal spline slots, which should match the tool maximum, over the splines. These are different to what you quote for the tool. Are there two different 24-spline tools or is this the correct one but one of us is measuring incorrectly? :-)
Hello- The measurements for this tool are provided by the manufacture- we have found this to be accurate when used with 24 spline Millard cassettes.
