Great tool for tight rims

I recommend this product
I was struggling to get my tyres back on to a very tight pair of rims. I’d snapped 2 tyre levers and a Cyclepal tool and holed 3 inner tubes. I was about to give up and take the wheels in to my LBS, when I came across this in a review. I had both tyres back on within a few minutes. Brilliant design, works well as a standard tyre lever to remove tyres as well, and no heavier or bulkier.

These are awesome. I have used these a lot, especially on older vintage rims like, Omega Stradas and MA40s, and tubeless ready tyres. I would suggest buying two. I did break one but that was after trying real hard.

ProsEasy to prize tyres off
I read a review of tyre leavers and could only find this at SJS cycles. I got it delivered in good time, and it seems to work a treat. The wider leavers make it easy to prize the tyre bead off and the tongs help put the tyre back on. Good service from SJS cycles as usual.

ProsGreat tool, lightweight
OK, so this tool is amazing. Do you ever find yourself struggling to fit a tire back on the rim after changing a flat tube? This lever makes it simple. You just rest one end in the rim itself and then use the other end to "grab" the tire and pull it over the rim to seat it properly. I am from the States and I found this in the UK and immediately ordered it for my new bike.

ProsGood quality reasonable price
Seen this recommended by a few users over the years so I decided to buy one.
Needing to replace a couple of tyres I got this out ready to do the job and would you believe I managed to get them fitted by hand. That said though having now brought it for a reasonable cost I understand how to use it and who knows I may have to use it on any future tyres I buy or to assist some other poor soul struggling to refit a tyre out on the road. Definitely a tool worth buying imo.

Prossaves the day in winter
Occasionally you just can't mount the tyre despite all the tricks, esp getting the tyre bead in the centre, and it's winter, cold, wet and your hands..... Then this tool takes no space and twice this winter has been my saviour. Hard to remove once you've slipped that last part of the tyre on, but beside that, a brilliant piece of kit.

ProsCompact, strong, ingenious design.
After a wrestling match with a schwalbe durano / Stan's tubeless rim (and having to resort to fairly liquid for the first time in 30 years), I hunted around for a tyre jack that would fit in my jersey pocket. The VAR looked ideal, and it is! Brilliant emergency tool, compact enough to carry around in the saddle pack / jersey and strong enough for the job. SJS service was excellent. Very pleased.

ConsPoor standard lever for tyre removal
ProsExcellent for getting difficult tyres on the rim
Bought this to help get difficult tyres over that last bit of rim. Works well without pinching the tube. Now have one for each family bike. It comes with an ordinary tyre lever for tyre removal. This doesn't work well, a bit flexible and to thick at the end so I carry a couple of ordinary levers to remove the tyre.

These little beauties really work. I got through 4 tubes and about 20 patches trying to fit some tyres on a tubeless ready rim (kept pinching the tubes) with standard levers...until I bought these. On the tyre popped, first go, no pinches.
They do have a little knack to them so practice first in a nice warm room before heading out.

Winter brings winter tyres. They're a sod to fit when you're at home and you can warm them up to get them to fit. When you're out on the road in the freezing cold with driving rain and a puncture this is exactly the tool you need. As others have said, get the tyre down to the final few inches then use the VAR to pop it over the rim wall. Simples. No saddle bag should be without one!

I have not had to use this by the road side YET, but I am sure this would make that refitting job that much easier. I have used this tool in the workshop and it really does work saving pinched tube and sore fingers. I have arhritic fingers and this makes the job of refitting tha much easier. Looks to be made of a tough material, is light and compact. The additional tyre level is also a good idea but you still need another two levers for removing a tyre

Prosgood value, small, neat and works
A brilliantly elegant solution for tight tyres.
Two tyre levers, one neatly stows in the other. The outer provides a tyre bead jack that allows that last segment of a tyre bead to be eased on the rim without broken thumbs and fingers.
Small enough to go in your jersey pocket. However, it might be a stretch on wider tyres (greater than 28 mm).

VAR Tyre Levers - Are they for road tyres or mountain bike tyres
By
22 Nov 2022
Just got a mountain bike with tubeless rims: Tyres almost impossible to get off/on with normal levers. Just wondered whether these were easier (YouTube seems to think so!) and whether they worked with Mountain bike tyres

Rgds

Peter
Hi
Yes, this VAR lever would make it easier however it depends on the size of the tyre & how much tread there is as there is only a certain amount of clearance. If the tyre is too wide & has a large treaded pattern then the VAR will struggle to clear it.
Regards. JP 23/11/22

clincher tyres on tubeless rims
By
11 Sep 2019
Hi, I have tried 3 sets of tubeless ready wheels, with clincher tyres, and all of them have been a pain to get on. I have even snapped the plastic coating off steel core tyre levers. Could one of these be the answer? Thanks.
The main thing is technique; using the tyre bead on the edge of the rim is hard work. Before fitting the last section simply go round and push the bead into the middle of the rim creating a little more slack.

Some tyres/rim are just tough!

SJS Cycles part number : 34684 is our recommendation.
